I bought a DS Lite today, and I'm looking for some good games for it. I bought Final Fantasy: Four Heroes of Light, and I'm looking to buy one or two other games. Can anybody recommend me some must have DS games?

Advanced wars DS
Age of Empires

For strategy games, Advance Wars.

I really enjoyed Hotel Dusk and it's sequel, though it not so much RPG as 'interactive novel.' You don't really do much but let the story develop.

Advance Wars, as Kan said, is execellent. Dual Strike is the continuation of the (quite cartoony yet fun) GBA games, while Days of Ruin is a much more serious standalone games. If you like them, then I must also suggest Fire Emblem, which is AW in a mideval fantasy. There is also a remake of Crono Trigger, and I highly reccomend it if you never played that classic.

But I think you really just wasted your money. DS Lite is horribly outdated. You should had gotten a 3DS or at least a DSi.

Dragon Quest V is very old school but I love it. If you like that, then DQ VI and IX would also work.

The World Ends With You and Shin Megami Tensai: Devil Survivor are more off-the-wall/creative rpgs. Both are very good.

Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrels (remake of Lufia II for the SNES) has a rocking soundtrack and is a pretty fun action rpg.

There is also a few rpgs set in the Mario universe. They look fun and have been received well.

I would also look into the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series and 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors.

As for what to avoid, my only recommendation is to steer clear of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2. It plays like a watered down, less fun version of its PS1 antecedent.

Seriously get Advance Wars. I've poured hour upon hour into Dual Strike, and the map editor in Days of Ruin is just so much fun. 50 custom maps is a lot better than 3.

3DS has no GBA slot, making it somewhat inferior.

I bought the DS Lite for the GBA slot.

Do you mean the one for GBA, or the new DS one? I've heard some good things about the GBA one, and I've been thinking about buying it. But I think I'll buy Advance Wars, sounds like a good strategy game. About how long does it take to finish it? I'm looking for something that will keep me occupied for a while.

The story isn't too long, but the meat of the game is in skirmishes. I have played on Rough Terrain more than I've played some other entire games.

IMO, the GBA one is poor and the DS one is only a marginal improvement. You are better off with Advance Wars if it's strategy you're looking for for.

LOTR: The Third Age for the GBA is a great game.

No, it's not that RPG. It's a tactics game.

Second the suggestion of Fire Emblem, ace game and properly challenging, the way games should be. If you're a perfectionist prepare to reset and start a map over at least a few times.
