You are right, of course. I can only say in my defense that I'm not used to working with timezones and I did all the math for all the schedules all at once, even though, I made sure to double check them to make sure at least the schedule is right (which it is, I checked it a third time!) and that despite my human frailties I am still a civ master! Please do not think my calculating abilities and all these errors indicative of my game skills or you will get a disturbing surprise! Ahem....

I am going and changing the gamestart post once again with hartster's new, correct, times for what I hope will be the last time. At least the east times are untouched, only trevor is the one that seems to have been taken for a ride.

I also changed the days from thursday to friday for america and friday to saturday for australia, which were the last mistakes I made. Today is not my day.....but tomorrow I will be as sharp as a blade an atom thick!

i am very glad we have sorted this all out so i will see utomorrow a 10am...looking forward to it very much.
but for all the others i am very disapointed in what times u offer this is not just a game...this is the ultimate test, and if u r a true civ player you would offer more hours..like me and nicosar who tiresomly working and writing on this for days to set up his game i feel you(as in everyone else) are just not showing the right amount of respect for a our creator, so please if u have the time everybody else i think 10 to 20 hour brackets are perfect.

But I hope they realize when this time comes that my master-version is but a third of the reason for such a great experience; the intense gameplay of Nicosar himself as your opponent providing the rest.

I will be online and waiting when 01:00 GMT rolls around. If I may make a suggestion to our verbose host. There is a GMT conversion table in the "edit profile" section of the "user cp" link in this forum. I recommend posting game start times in GMT and let each individual player determine where this falls on his clock face. This will save our verbose host some aggrevation, God knows he has enough already. And if a player isn't smart enough to figure out his own time form GMT, then perhaps he is not of the cerebral caste that we would prefer in this game.

Regretfully i announce that I am pulling out of the game. There are several reasons for this.

a) In the next month I will have several additional periods of unavailability this includes 6th and 7th of Oct and 11th to 22nd Oct due to travel and National Tabletennis commitments. If AI is used during that time it will destroy my game as their strategy is always considerably different from mine.

b) It appears my work hours will increase making Mon 2.30 - 5.30am also unavailable on alternate weeks and Sun 9.00pm to Mon 6.00am unavailable on opposite week. Those 'available hours' of mine include my sleeping hours( a factor which I stated in my original post)

c)The rule changes which you have made to the game will substantially change the nature of the game. Some of the changes will in my opinion destroy much of the enjoyment of the game. The changes that most concern me are

- The doubling of the food box and doubling of task time for settlers. The effect of these changes is to discourage the player from founding his own cities by increasing the cost of this in game time and resources. Instead this will lead to a more militaristic approach to gaining cities (ie through military or diplomatic action against other players)

- The extreme increase in the time required to learn new technologies. Some increase later in the game is desirable but at only 10% of normal rate at start of game is ridiculous. Under those circumstances not worth trying to learn, better to steal from other players with diplomats. The player who steals all technologies and has high tax rate so as to bribe cities and rush building orders will win this game, an aspect of the game I find particularly unappealing.

- All the changes overall make military domination the only way to win the game. Games with continuous and major military actions take significantly longer to play. I can't commit large amounts of time for up to 5 years which is probably what may be necessary.

Again I regret pulling out of this game, I do wish to play games from start to finish against human opponents, but this is not the best game and time for me to do that.

The rantings of Nicosar once again resound within this realm, I see. Unfortunately, this time leaving disappointment for some in its wake.

I was unhappy to read Trev had dropped out, however, if I am not mistaken his schedule was the one holding back a lot of the available times. Perhaps this is a good thing. And Hartster, before you go tipping your hat to Nicosar and the smiling mirror before you, understand that we all have given considerable time, at least I know I have. 'Tis not only you and our fair, if not a bit abrasive, host who have provided significant availability.

I myself have provided from 8 pm to 3 am every night, and 24/7 on the weekends (Friday from 8 pm until Sunday morning at 3 am). What more could you ask of a man of my years with a professional career?

Further, your reference to this as the "ultimate game" remains to be seen. While I admire the passion shown by Nicosar, whether or not his changes provide an enjoyable experience is still a quandary. I feel good about the changes, dont get me wrong. In an attempt to get up to speed on Civ2 after spending the last few months on Civ3, and other games, I was quickly reminded on even King difficulty how shamefully fast one could gain technology.

One thing I will say, this game will be fun and entertaining, and should last long enough to be worthy of many a tale over a mug of ale. He who would not jump at the opportunity and challenge this game will undoubteldy present us with is more a fool than he who leaves his treasures unguarded, as true competition and worthy challenges are worth more than gold itself.

I understand "deadlocked" to mean the game will not commence tonight as planned Nicosar? That being the case I will resume my other duties and await word of when this contest might begin. Even I, a man of many years, becomes as giddy as a schoolgirl on Friday at 3:00 pm, when the subject of worthwhile competition comes up.

Poor, dear Hartster, I carry with me something, deep inside but finally attainable by my outer mind, that glows despite the lack of light. A terrible brightness that is almost a threat to the world....

I hate to curtail your unbridled enthusiasm and allegiance, but you should really read more closely...maybe for you 5 humans is more than enough, and it was in my glorious former days even, but the world has had many thousands of settling tribes trying to thrive at one point throughout the globe simultaneously, and if I can get 2 more players to try and reach closer to that realism then I will.

The game has been put indeed at a standing halt, if 'deadlocked' (one would think it the perfect word to describe it) has not been astute enough a word to penetrate all ears. I will try and ammend this in all ways possible, of course, but we can still only wait.

I'm sorry everyone, that you had to read my words, since they flash with that deep fire even I have trouble keeping within the puppet strings at times, but I am NOT sorry for having said them, they do the world justice.

If you wish to play so badly you are willing to ignore what I have said so very clearly in one of my past dialogues and reminded two players already about elsewhere then you should throw upon the table as generous a schedule as you can give (remember now, DDay gave three hours a day, if that, and he is now thrown from the table of players) and consider yourself a player of this game! But I will not teach you such a lesson, though I could.

I no longer require __7__ masters!, for that is far too unrealistic at a point when I have just got back into this game from long being sundered and have just begun to form a worthy list! Please, if you want to play and are moderately available to provide the schedule with higher probabilities of playdates, then do not feel restricted by lack of skill or confidence! Come!

I will see to it personally that you arise from this game at least twice as worthy as you were before, and therefore maybe even legible to play at the next game where a full table of masters will be easier to come by!
