GOTM 05 Saves available....

This is a Warlord thing.
In low difficulty levels you get free techs.
to be more precise, its in :
\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\XML\GameInfo\CIV4HandicapInfo.xml
It mentions that at Warlord, the human player starts with the Wheel for free.
I don't know about Challenger.

I'm guessing Ainwood didn't realize that either - otherwise the challenger write-up wouldn't have said you start with no technologies (that confused me too when I first downloaded the save)

Is it possible, to submit GOTM 5 with the new patch installed?

If you look at the opening post I would err on the side of caution

The game is on Warlord, If you need to update to continue your other games finish the GOTM first then update.

No. We will NOT accept entries played under anything but v1.52.

Make a copy of your Civ4 directory and call it Civ4 1.52. Then apply the patch.

You can run Civ4 1.52\Civ4.exe to play the GOTM.

It's also crucial that you rename the "Sid Meier's Civilization IV" directory under My Documents/My Games to the same name. Otherwise, you'll be able to access your previously saved games from the new version but not from the old version, which is exactly the opposite of what you want.
