What a pleasant surprise on Saturday morning. Seems like some interesting gaming ahead. Though my prime goal is to be around by the date game finishes, hehe.

PS. And my first post too... :)

Great - can't wait to get started.

Although the possible use of the HOF mod in GOTM seems to be generating healthy and heated debate, I assume it is not an option in this GOTM?

Yay, my first ever GOTM :D

I'm gonna try Contender... even though I'm usually a Noble player... but hey, I did alright in my last Noble as Japan, winning by domination.

I think I'll go for Space Race this time :mischief: don't want to get wiped out.

Yes, Archipelago maps allow circumnavigation.

I'm going to play contender.

I'm not sure if the adventurer bonuses would be enough. Someone that is used to playing on noble will probably still fall behind. It may have been better to give them a starting tech like Bronze Working and an Axemen to go along with it.

Anybody else have a problem openinig save? I did not install any other mods than HOF and now I am not able to open Contender version. It says that save file is protected to ensure that assets are not changed, but I did not change any assets.

Have you got the latest patch installed?

I suggest a reinstall. Uninstall, delete any remaining files, then reinstall.

It opened fine for me, but if I understand rightly... Seraphinus, are you trying to run the file with HOF mod loaded? I dont beleive that works for GOTM8.

It looks like the problem was that I downloaded some games from HOF and try them. I reinstalled the game and patch and now worked fine again. Thanks.

Hmm! I thought games without the HoF Mod as a requirement would simply ignore the existence of the mod. Not so?

A game created using a mod has it's name and path stored in the savegame file. If the game is created using vanilla Civ4 it's mod is set to "None". When the current Mod running doesn't match the save game, Civ4 will always ask to load the correct mod. (i.e. restart game).

The HOF mod isn't in use unless you load it or allow it to be loaded via a saved game. Trying to open the GOTM while the HOF mod was active should have caused Civ4 to ask for the "None" mod before it would load. Civ4 has problems finding the "None" mod, though. That may have been the player's problem. For a vanilla game you have to start it without a mod or switch to None via the advanced menu.

interesting...I took a short break and missed out on all the difficulties I'm good at. I tried the last one(Prince) on contender, and had a huge lead in points, size and everything else, but ran out of time to play. My best ally was my opponent in the diplomacy so I found myself unable to win by diplo victory and didn't have time to convince the other players to vote for me.

If I'd won more easily, I would try contender this time, but considering my inability to overcome my extreme builder tendencies on prince, coupled with my utterly underwhelming performance in GOTM 3, I think I'll be doing the adventurer save this time around.

I tried to start GOTM game simply with clicking on saved game, which loaded plain Civ, but no success. Then I ran plain Civ (I did not change .ini file or add mod name to the shortcut) and then loaded saved GOTM game, but same result. I am just guessing that downloaded GOTM caused a problem because first I downloaded original file but was not able to load it, then I downloaded unprotected file and loaded by clicking on it, but HOF mod .003 was automatically used to open it. I have installed both .003 and .004 version of HOF mod.

After reinstalling the game and patch I was able to play both GOTM and HOF mod normally (but I did not try to open downloaded games again).

I hope this clarify the situation. Probably I could solve the problem as Denniz suggested.

Hello everyone,

I'm new to both CivFanatics and GOTM, but when reading about it thought it was a nice touch and decided to give it a go. I downloaded the save and actually already played through the game, so what's next? I gather I'm not supposed to spoil anything, so I won't.....but should I submit a savegame? should I wait for the spoiler threads to open?.....kinda confused.
