GOTM 31 Saves Now Available

Er, about this PediaIcons.txt file... For PTW, are we supposed to create a new folder "gotm31" with another new folder in it "text", and then put this file in that?
Sorry. i really need to get myself a copy of PtW, then I'd bea ble to see what you are seeing. Trouble is it woudl be wasted on my one legged donkey of a 200 MHz Pentium. :(. I've fixed the text - as Culvienen says you shoud put it in the scenarios\gotm25\text folder

Huh, something unusual happened. I forgot the new gotm was going to be released. I don't think I have forgotten it for a year. Anyway, I started to play last night and now I have finished already. :) Where's the submit page for this month!?

Patience! What's the rush? All will be revealed real soon now.

Can someone please attach a copy of your ptw pediaicons file. I made the stupid mistake of copying the gotm pediaicons file there instead of in the gotm 25 folder. Thanks.

I am playing on PTW 1.27f.

I installed all the files as well as the pediaicons.txt but the French Leaderhead comes up with a "?" in the diplomacy window.
Could anyone assist please??

Since I am posting, here is another dilemma: My C3C and PTW CDs have cracks on the game CD. PTW is not bad but C3C is now almost 10 mm from the inside extending outwards and causing load problems. Any recommendations would be welcome (sorry if this is not the correct thread for this).

Thanks a lot in advance

I'm going to refrain from posting advice on C3C/PtW now tha Ainwood is back in town, but I would have thought you could get a replacement for the CD from Firaxis for admin+postage, since you clearly have proof of purchase. Of course admin+postage may add up to the price of a new copy :hmm:.

You could also try setting your drive to read at a slower speed--sometimes that helps. You could also burn a backup copy, though it might have errors since the disk is damaged.

I need to submit my game within the next 48 hours, because I may be going offline for 6 weeks after that. Will the submissions page be up by then?

Final testing is in progress, and I hope to put it up in the next 24 hours. I'll PM you my email address if it looks like it will be delayed, and you can send it to me.

The new version will check your save and extract all the key data from it on the fly. As this is done in interpreted php, it adds up to 10 seconds to the total submission upload time, but the good news is you won't have to enter so much information. Please note the following, and make sure you have a suitable file ready for submission.

When the new form is published it will be MANDATORY to submit a MANUAL SAVE taken from the TURN AFTER the victory ceremony unless you suffered a conquest defeat. The file MUST NOT be zipped. Your submission will be REJECTED if it does not comply with these requirements.

To save the turn after victory or defeat, select "Wait, lemme play just 'couple more turns ..." when the victory ceremony is over and then select "Save Game" in the main game menu. You can't do this if you suffer a conquest defeat, so you in this case ONLY you may submit a manual save from the turn before your defeat.

Where did you put the pediaicons.txt file? It should go in the civ3ptw\scenarios\gotm25\text folder.

Duh!! Thanks ainwood . It is always something that is so trivial..:goodjob:

It's LIVE. See my new thread >>HERE<< Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

It depends. If you are playing the ptw version then you just go ahead and play a standard game any time. The scenarioo folders take care of keeping everying separate. If you are playing 'vanilla' version 1.29f then you have some file swapping to do. I'll tell you about that only if you need it.

Can I stop GOTM-playing for some Conquest games and can I in those games do MANY reloads? And then continue GOTM without any reloads.

You will have to reload the GOTM each time you close it to play another game. But why do you do many reloads in other games? You don't learn to play Civ well by reloading. Human beings learn best by remembered pain

Actually you may be able to run more than one instance of the Civ3 application. I don't know if this is possible on a PC, but on my Mac I have multiple copies of the Civ3 (vanilla) installation. I can run one copy with the GOTM mods and the GOTM game, and I often run another copy at the same time to check last month's entries, or for a succession game, or to test utilities and so on. So I don't need to close the GOTM to do other things, even to play other Civ3 games.

But reloads in those games wouldn't count as GOTM-reloads?

We have our russian-spoken championship, where reloads are acceptable. Of course, we also have non-reload championship.

I want to ask, could I play GOTM and our game with reloads in one month?

Yes. You can play different games to different rules and they should not interfere with each other..

But I am intrigued! Is the Russian reloader champion the player with the maximum reloads?

OK, newbie question here. This will be my first GOTM. Is my list of add-on files below that I need to play GOTM31 complete?

gotm21_v129_full_setup.exe (6.8MB)
gotm22_v129_add_on_setup.exe (1.6MB)
gotm23_v129_add_on_setup.exe (1.6MB)
gotm24_v129_add_on_setup.exe (7.1MB)
gotm25_v129_add_on_setup.exe (7.1MB)

(I am using Civ3 v. 1.29)

Just would like to know if I have everything I need the first time I try to get it to work. The GOTM31 intro page instructs me to download something called the "GOTM21 total install"...but "full_setup" is the closest I can find.

It would be nice to have one page with links to all the files needed to go from unmodified Civ to GOTM-capable Civ.

Thanks for your help,
DD
