GOTM 31 Saves Now Available

But reloads in those games wouldn't count as GOTM-reloads?

We have our russian-spoken championship, where reloads are acceptable. Of course, we also have non-reload championship.

I want to ask, could I play GOTM and our game with reloads in one month?

IgrOK[SU],

You can play the games separately. The rule against reloading is that you MUST NOT reload in order to get a better result.

If you are playing one turn in one game then another turn in another game, then the reloads will interfere.

The simple solution is to play the GOTM for a few hours, then play the russian championship for a few hours. That will ensure that your reload count does not look too suspicious. :)

But I am intrigued! Is the Russian reloader champion the player with the maximum reloads?

Personaly I play in nonreload version. I hate reloads too. But many players think that reloads smooth the random factors of the game. So, they want to reload if, in example, 8 veteran swordsmen dies, attacking 3 regular spearmen.

If player plays bad, even reloads can not help him to win. Our reload-champions is also very skilled players.

I maintain posts in the GOTM Reference thread stickied near here containing over 150 links to every add-on and start file for all the software options, and for all the spoiler/discussion threads for the last year or more. Please let me know if this fails to meet your requirements

Alan, here is the error message I get w/ your pediaicon replacement file. I've tried it by placing .txt on it, which breaks it as you've informed me, and as "pediaicon, which it d/ls as." Both produce this error message:

I've zipped and uploaded the file I am using to play the game into the same location. It's at http://gotm.civfanatics.net/games/civ_PediaIcons/pediaicons.txt.zip

Please can you try downloading that file and let me know if it works for you? I have a suspicion that OS X is doing silly things to the line endings when it downloads the raw text file.

Perfect! Worked, everything is in order. Thanks.

Dojoboy: Have you tried the Pediaicons.txt file that comes with the save file? Where did this pediaicons.txt file come from?

The original had some leaderhead mix-ups and possibly other nasty stuff to come. The error message was generated from the "fix" posted. But, as Alan said, OSX must have been misbehaving during d/l'ed.

AlanH,

Thanks for the pointer. I got all the add-on files from the GOTM page, by going to each game page separately. I had looked in "references", but didn't scroll down far enough to find your posts (I thought it was all about rules and "civilopedia" type stuff).

Ainwood,

Thanks. I got two pediaicons files. One 76kb (separate from the zip file) and one 78kb that came bundled with the saved game (I think those sizes are correct). I used the larger file, and started playing. I did see that there are several icons in the civilopedia for add-in units and tribes, that don't have a picture with them...oddly, "France" was one of them. Any fix? Is it a real problem?

Thanks for all your help, gentlemen.

I don't think there are any game breakers in these files, but I'll get together with Ainwood before the next game and we'll try to ensure that these issues don't continue. I think they are legacies from the big expansion in the tribal repertoire, and we just need to ensure that the files (both pediaicons.txt and diplomacy.txt) are full supersets of all the entries required.

These items have been bugging me for a while, and now that I've launched my submission page automaton, and hopefully that project is off the top of my to do list, I can focus some attention on them.

Yes. You can play different games to different rules and they should not interfere with each other..

But I am intrigued! Is the Russian reloader champion the player with the maximum reloads?

About simultaneous game in the several championships I many times wrote ainword, but he has understood nothing also to me have rejected unreasonably some games (except for me also Assura which plays on my computer). I asked to understand, but is ineffectual.
If simultaneously to play 2-3 games the counter reloads shows idiotic values which you count for number reloads.
I already wrote, that the counter it is possible to edit not touching sav a file. I think it incorrect, but I can make as the test.

Sorry, this is not the case. Reload counts for separate games are recorded separately in each SAV file and there should be no interference between different games, unless you play very short GOTM sessions because you are switching between games. We recommend that you should only start a GOTM session if you are able to play for at least 30 minutes.

OK, newbie question here. This will be my first GOTM. Is my list of add-on files below that I need to play GOTM31 complete?

gotm21_v129_full_setup.exe (6.8MB)
gotm22_v129_add_on_setup.exe (1.6MB)
gotm23_v129_add_on_setup.exe (1.6MB)
gotm24_v129_add_on_setup.exe (7.1MB)
gotm25_v129_add_on_setup.exe (7.1MB)

(I am using Civ3 v. 1.29)

Just would like to know if I have everything I need the first time I try to get it to work. The GOTM31 intro page instructs me to download something called the "GOTM21 total install"...but "full_setup" is the closest I can find.

It would be nice to have one page with links to all the files needed to go from unmodified Civ to GOTM-capable Civ.

Why aren't these mentioned on the front page? Where do you get them?

There's a lot of downloads listed in the quote. If I need all of them then I quit before I start.

They are. The front page for GOTM 31 states:

If you have not previously recently played and completed a GOTM game, then download the "Gotm21 Total Install" first and then add the Add-On packs for Gotm22, Gotm23, Gotm24 and then add on the Gotm25 game pack that matches your software. You can download the Game Packs from the game pages in the menu at the left hand side of this page. Please pay close attention to matching the game pack versions to the software version that you are playing as this will eliminate 95% of all the errors that have been observed in the past games

I'm sorry if you feel this is excessive, but it's a one-off investment of time and effort, and it will then enable you to play any of the existing games, future games, and possibly future multi-team SGs that will re-use these adaptations.

I'm sure you understand, having a one-legged Pentium, that not everyone has over capacity on their PC :(

Despite having two HDs, my computer has a grand total of only 1.91Gb free space!!

I have no IDE ports left for upgrades. Big downloads are a no-no.

Hehe You've been doing your research :D

Sorry, that's not an adequate excuse ;)
The total disk capacity needed for the unstuffed add-ons is 34 MBytes on my hard drive. That's less than 2% of the free space you have available, and frankly I can't imagine a better use for it. If you have limited and costly download bandwidth then I will sympathise more, but if your Avatar's flag implies that you are within national snail-mail distance of my locale then a burnt CD could solve that.

This is going to be my first GOTM attempt - I've never played above regent. This should be educational - and if not that, it will be vastly entertaining.

Hi Guys, my first GOTM attempt.
