I have Civ III crash on me while playing. I don't want to spoil anything, but it happened when I tried to talk to a Civ for diplomacy that isn't in the original Civ III.

I'm using Civ III vanilla, 1.29f patch, and I've installed the GOTM support files for 21-25. I haven't played a GOTM before (just COTM).

Also, my resources do not look right. For example, spices look like rubber.

I tried uninstalling 21-25 but my save wouldn't load. I reinstalled 21-25 and the resource icons are still not right and I still experience occasional crashes in the diplomacy screen.

OK - try the following:

1.) In your civ3\art\ folder, there will be a folder called 'resources storage'. In that, there is a sub folder called "gotm21_before". Look in that folder for two files: Resources.pcx and resources_shadows.pcx. Take these files and drag them in to the civ3\art\ folder, replacing the original ones. This should solve the resource pictures issue.

2.) Go to the \civ3\art\flics\ folder. In it, you will see that there are a number of sub-folders called spain1.flc, spain2.flc etc. These are maked as folders - but should be files. Delete all 7 of these folders. Attached to this post, I have a zip files called "Spain Flics.ZIP". Open this, and unzip all the files in it to your \civ3\art\filcs\ folder. This should solve those crashes when you contact spain!

3.) Last step! Attached to this post is a zip file called 'Civ Pediaicons.zip'. Download it, and in it you will find a file called pediaicons.txt. Unzip this file and put it in your \civ3\text\ folder in place of the one that is already there. This should resolve a few other minor crashes.

I'm sorry for these problems, but once you do the above, it should all work fine. :)

1) I don't have a gotm21 before folder. I've got 3 others for gotm21 (plain, plain w blips, plain w smilies and blips), but not a before folder.

2) That went fine

3) Went fine as well

I'm a beknighted Mac player, but I thought C3C installed PtW. Any reason why you aren't playing the PtW version?

Re (1) Have you a folder in resources Storage called "My original resources"? The original resourc files may be in there. If no, there's a pair of files attached to this post that you can drop into your \Art\ folder to replace the ones that are displaying the wrong resource icons.

Thanks, I'll try that.

I installed Conquests and I didn't think it included the PTW executable for some reason. :crazyeye: I just used the icons I had on my desktop for Conquests and the original, and then just today noticed that the PTW executable is on here too.

Since I've already started this GOTM with the original, it wouldn't have been fair to start over with PTW, since I've already seen a lot of the map. :D

Next month though, I think I'll use PTW. Not being able to irrigate through a city on a hill caught me by surprise from playing Conquests for so long.

AlanH: That worked perfectly, thanks! :goodjob:

Now I have resources I didn't even know I had! For a while there I thought that Ainwood went through and got rid of certain resources off each save map start area to make them harder. :D

Yeh I have had problemos with diplomacy with Spain too. Game crashed.

The new flics above have fixed it nicely.
Thnx

When i tried play this GOTM 36 ther is an error: Missing file resource_shadow.
I don't have this file in my vanilla Civ/Art folder, so i've copied it from Conquest/Art folder. End i don't know if it's alright.

By the way. My Map Making technology shows, thet its give me a unit called... Settlers :)

Hello :wavey:

If you have Conquests then it's easiest to play the current Classic games using the PtW executable that it installs. That way you don't have to install any mods.

The correct resources files for vanilla are attached to this post as I stated above.

What about for PTW for Windows? I am having this same issue... where can I find a pediaicons file that works for me? I keep having to add lines to it as these errors pop up...

Hi rockytop :wavey:

As I said in the previous post, you should be able to play gotm36 in PtW with no mods at all. If you are having trouble its probably because you have downloaded the vanilla start file instead of the PtW one.

:crazyeye: Hehe, silly me... I will try that and see if it works... :goodjob:

I've played the last 3 GOTMS with this problem. Just kept adding them to the pediacons text file, but still had probs once in a while. These files should really be part of the "New to GOTM" page.

Thanks for your help.

Yes - that's a very good idea. And we should have a FAQ technical support page as well. :hmm:
