You can download the saves from:
here.

Or, if that link is showing Austria, then try this link here.

Good luck! :)

Hopefully, the save does not include any errors, but plenty of resources.

Another obtrusive question - is the submission date for this GOTM really Jan 05? ;)

I assume that this is a mistake and that one of the GOTM staff will correct it.

@GOTM staff: the release page does list Jan 15, but the main page and the submission page are both based off of Jan 05. THe submission page even states we only have 21 days remaining to submit.

Everything except the release page is based off the database entry, which is created when ainwood uploads the game. I'm sure it's due to a typo by ainwood, but we'll have to wait for NZ to wake up to confirm that.

It is the 15th (and updated now).

I was getting ahead of myself with a 2005 fixation (and a requirement to enter the date in YYYY-MM-DD format :ack: )

This will be my first GOTM... and how appropriate, as I will be playing as the civilization of my heritage. One question though, do our own spoilers have to be written? Or can they be not revealed (as I do not have the time to do so) Thanks

~Kodi

Less than one hour after completing GOTM37... Here I go!

Nice to be playing the civ of my heritage... in a non-AW game.

:D it's really good to see that three people already took china as their heritage.
Tomoyo I always thought you were from Japan... well, that's still very close. :)

No you don't have to participate in the spoilers. Just that people find them interesting to see how others tackled particular challenges. And people that still are stuggling to survive can gain from others' experience.

I fall into the latter group and the only spoilers that I have left are that I was dead and who killed me and how.

Have anybody noticed a bugged tile in the PTW version? I can't show screenshot (no spoliers!) but I got what i've never seen so far: a strange tile with a jungle which i can't clear and enemy units (i.e. Knights) can attack me on this tile DIRECTLY from the sea (from caravel) !!!!!! Something's wrong with this map!

Moderator Action: This should be a subject for a PM to ainwood, not raised in the pre-game thread. The rules should be clear - please don't post here once you have opened the start save file.

I was planning to start it tomorrow, I am intrigued.

It is probably just a bug with manually-added jungle tiles. Please e-mail me a screenshot to gotm@civfanatics.net.

It shouldn't be game-breaking, but I'd imagine that somehow the game thinks the underlying terrain is coastal, not land.

Why Ainwood would add jungle tiles?

An answer for that probably would be a spoiler information, but guessing is not. Unfortunately, I could not find a single optimistic reason for doing so.
The worst I can imagine is that everything around our starting position is jungle. Ainwood was placing additional jungle tiles to make a nightmarish Christmas present. :devil2:

Alternatively, Ainwood was placing jungle tiles around AI starting locations, but I am not sure that it is good either. Weak AI is not a good AI.

Any other ideas from those who did not start GOTM38?

Anyway, if it is true that such tiles cannot be liquidated, there should be a warning somewhere, otherwise people with a weak nervous system may freak out.
Is it possible to build a city on such tile?
If so, imagine having a city on such tile and enemy knights attacking from a galley. :wow: That may get a heart attack to someone.

Also, I have a dilemma: should I try my first predator game or shouldn’t?
Starting position looks awesome. It is tempting to try a predator, even if there is a huge jungle forest out there.

Well, seeing as I don't know what jungle tile is causing this problem, I can't answer that question anyway.

What I can say though, is that if I want to move land / ocean etc, I usually just create vast sections of land, in grassland / plains / desert or tundra. So that its not just open terrain, I then add overlays - hills, mountains, forests, jungle and resources.

It is therefore probably just jungle that was added to make the terrain look realistic.

I have also noticed some coast and ocean tiles beside each other, probably through editing, but i think i know the reason for this

Yes, that made it a bit obvious as to ainwood's intentions.

this gotm is wicked, u can tell that u need to do certain things throughout in order to succeed in wars against other civs, once u play u will understand what i mean
