GOTM 40 Pre-Game Discussion

It's been known to trigger Commercial GAs too. That's why India isn't that a good a choice for OCCs. They get a Colossus GA. I've tried many times and have experienced it myself. The Civilopedia doesn't speak the entire truth. For example, UniSuf is also Expansionist, as well as Militaristic.

Tomoyo is correct, Colossus is a 3-trait wonder in PTW, REL, COM & EXP

The COM part isn't documented (Easter Egg??)

Speaking of Easter Eggs, I wonder if the staff has any little surprise for the March GOTM to celebrate easter. I kind of thought GOTM 40 might warrant a special game. Maybe GOTM 50 is going to be a special event type game.

I'll probably move my settler northwest initially, since river and coast has the potential for some nice early science generation, that is once colossus is build. From what I see, short of food bonuses, you can get some good production here. That little land tail adds 4 shields at least from your typical coastal city. My worker will stay where he is and road then mine.

I'll likely think about a science or diplomatic victory of some sort, and then throw that all out and get domination, yet again.

I checked in the Mac vanilla editor as well. It's old - 1.21 - but it also shows Colossus as Religious, Commercial and Expansionist.

Fish is +2, so you do get a bonus from the harbour.

I just went back over a couple of lake fish examples in my head, and dangit, I'm wrong again. I am just a fount of misinformation today.

Thanks for the correction.

So if I plan on building the colossus 1st and capturing the GL it should do the trick right?
Only when and if you then build another wonder. The game only checks your traits against your wonders when you buuild one, not when you capture one.

GL= Great Library? You'll still need to build another Wonder (any wonder) to actually start the GA -- captured wonders don't do it at the time they're captured.

Edit: Whoops, Alan beat me to it. I think I'll just quit while I'm behind. ;)

Yes,
Colossus is expan, comm & reli since PTW.
The CFC specs are for civ vanilla and are now obsolete.

[edit] Oops ignore, question has long been answered already [/edit]

*AHEM* some of us still run vanilla....

How about moving E (for QwertySoft that means 'to the RIGHT') :)

You will initially loose the extra commerce from the river, but reveals 4 city locations with distance 3. Of those 2 are on river.

Looks like space is a premium. I'm going to move N and if nothing jumps out at me settle there. A Settler pump looks unlikely so I'll just be eeking out a Settler whenever I get a chance and place them in a very tight build. Probably try for Map Making and then Republic as fast as I can get there. I may make a run for Space. I still haven't chalked up a 5CC Space win yet. Hmmmm. :mischief:

Renata - I won by 20k last month so feel free to speculate here all you want. Take a few hours to analyze our SGOTM while your at it too. :p

Very close behind - don't quit now ;). The time stamps were identical.

Alan says that in his vanilla editor Colossus is commercial too, so maybe only the ingame description in civ vanilla is obsolete.

... more likely they were written around an earlier version than 1.21. My CD is 1.14, for instance.

Heeeee. :) I doubt you have anything to worry about. I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.

Regent! :) sweet. After my pathetic showing in GOTM 39, i'm looking forward to this one.

a couple of questions- are people really concerned about us being up against the tundra? The set up says we're a warm world, which i figured would mean the tundra would be limited to just a couple of tiles from the N/S borders.

What are people going to do with their hoplites? They aren't really attack specialists, so what are some tricks to getting them into the mix to start a GA? Or do you avoid that in order to put off the GA until you have more towns?

REGENT? This is scary, since the COTM will probably be Deity or something. Oh, well, maybe I need it, I did worse than I expected in GOTM39.

Greece, encore, so soon? How interesting. Well at least it's Regent so I won't get my butt handed to me by the Chinese like I did back in GOTM33 :)

Neil.
