GOTM 53 Spoiler

Sorry to hear that you had to give up TheRyk. Did you read the description of the map (post #3) of this thread?

Ryk - building Marco Polo early and trading techs with the AI civs till you can trade maps (usually Cordial or above) may help with getting an idea of where and how big the other civs are. After that it sounds like you need to work on Trade to improve your tech research rate. There are several good threads around here on that - check the topped threads in the General Discussion forum.

And welcome to CFC and GOTM!

Great game! Im late this month but I hope Im still in...

I also finished before 500 AD :D
But I have to say that I knew much more about the map before playing the game because of the information in the spoiler thread. Therefore its a bit unfair for the others who played it at the beginning...

...anyways, I had a good start, build Lighthouse in 1250 i think. and because of mapknowledge i didnt need more at this point. i send ships with elephants to the west and to the east at the same time.
but the carthag. and especially the chinese (grummel) made it quite difficult. The first were big and the second destroyed four of my little elephants in one turn. thats the reason why i didnt finish earlier, although i had quite luck with the respawns...

i think, this is your green star, peaster ;)

That is why you shouldn't read spoiler threads until you're late in the game and know all about the map and your opponents. In terms of competition this gives you a huge advantage, much more than 'just a bit unfair'.
