GOTM 61 Spoiler

My theory about Civilixzations re-appearingand re-spawning...
In a Deity level...no CIVs will re-appear after 1450.
AS Emperor on 1500....
AS KIng in 1550 ..

Safe bet , like I do is to eliminate them all at once after a certain year. I do hate re-spawnings , if you are in DEmocracy is hard to wipe the out...
AnY ideas??

I had restarts even after 1700. The new civs appeared on empty islands- until all were occupied.

I had to change to Fundy to eliminate it, and then back to Democracy. I do not like restarts, but on the other hand it push me to spaceship. In fact I wanted to finish with spaceship, but I failed - development was too slow.

The people at Apolyton probably spend more time on these questions than on playing the game. They share their answers in the "Great Library". IMO every GOTM player should take a look. One thread [started by La Fayette] discusses restarts in detail, though some questions are still not answered:

"This happens until 1500AD at Deity level and later than that at easier levels, and this means that most players (among whom my friend SlowThinker a few weeks ago ) consider that playing early conquest when 'Restart' is on brings only boredom. But it is not true: it is in fact possible to achieve conquest well before 1500AD, and I shall try to explain why...."

U - IMO nobody can predict which green civ will respawn when you kill the Zulus (for example). It is usually the Babs or Japs, but it can be the Zulus again. And you might see from about 1 to 5 green civs in one game. You might see the Zulus 3 times.

golem - Did you mean that Fundy stops the respawning ? Or that you needed Fundy to kill the respawns ?

To kill the respawns. The only thing that stop the respawns was lack of unoccupied islands.

And another interesting thing - one respawn (I suppose Vikings) had in three turns two cities on two islands about 15 squares awey. Almost all respawns had two settlers, maybe this time the settlers were divorced by some storm.

How about agressively colonizing before you wipe out later civs. There is around 36 islands, it shouldnt be that hard on small map to drop a settler on all empty islands. Should be good for the score too
:crazyeye:

I played a little bit at the beginning of the month. But spent most of my time agonizing over the map and the starting location. Finally built Cardiff at the starting location and produced a warrior followed by a settler.

I already knew the size of the island we started on from black clicking. Knowing how small it is, I knew it would be impossible for any rivals to be on that island as well. So the warrior went exploring instead of defending Cardiff, as it should have.

2 Persians units showed up and shocked me. One was a horseman. There was no time for my warrior to make it back to Cardiff. I was a couple of turns away from producing a size 1 settler. Persians were receptive and offered peace. I could have switched away from settler but I did not. The lure of an undefended city was too much. They back stabbed me and took Cardiff.

As mentioned by Peaster, I cannot complain that we were not warned. I knew my rivals have units and do not like me. Somehow it did not occur to me that the aforementioned units could include ships. The small size of the island made me feel safe.
