I’m pretty glad with my result this far, I am in 1 A.D have about 30 cities and rule most of europe and about half Africa.

I started out by making peace with the celts and went for map making as soon as I could. Everything went pretty smoth , now I have gunpowder and my next goal will be explosives. I’ve got the pyramids, hanging gardens and Marco polos. I’ve exchanged maps with all civs and noone is in america! This is where the colonisation will take place in the comming years.

Stupid me doesn’t know how to calculate my GOTM-score so I’ll have to guess when to end the game. Mostly often though I get tired and don’t play the game to the finish. Hopefully I can get that spaceship up until this happens, or maybe I should kill off everyone right away, well enough talk now.

Here is my powergraph

You are rolling by the sounds of it.Getting off the rock ASAP is important. There is lots of land with just the hapless ai to settle it.

I'm getting alot of barbs. From huts and landings.More of an annoyance than anything but they do manage to pillage an important road here and there. My empire is vast and responding to threats isn't always immediate.
On the flip side I've gotten my fair share of nomads and advanced tribes.Colonies have sprung up pretty much everywhere.

I am farther along now but here is my PG at 1ad

That powergraph looks really good Smash, I don't think you need to worry about your chances to get a medal, the metal is in the house, the only question is who will get what.

And since I'm not playing this month - you might get another gold

I wonder if Starlifter will play this month he hasn't been at the forums for some time now, so we might get a few new guys in the hall of fame this month!!

I'm out this month too--my second in a row. Hopefully I'll be all set up and ready for September's game. (Though if I'd known Shadowdale AND Starlifter were sitting this one out...

Well, I'm not making a run for this month's game either, so it looks like all three medal placers from GOTM 6 will not be playing GOTM 7.

Indeed it does, a little too good,

My game keeps going, it's A.D. 1120 and I am a fundamentalist now. My goal is to take everyone down to 1 city, and keep it so until south America and Australia is settled which will make the comp restart on small islands when I kill them. And then I can concentrate on improving the terrain around my cities.

Right now I have 67 cities and I'm still slowly expanding. Do you think it's possible to get all the 254 cities? I've never played this map before so I don't know really. After a while I got confused by all citynames finding myself having 2 Londons, 2 Yorks and so on. Now I've renamed them to real city names, from towns in similar position in the real world. Hope someone understand what I'm trying to say, my english fails me here, BTW most of the cities names are in Swedish so you might have a hard time to understand. Moskva=Moscow for example, not to big difference in this one though.

I've also got all wonders this far, except the Great Library which is in Shanghai. However I'll take control of it in a few turn.

How do I make an image appear in my post. When I upload files they just show up as an icon in the top-right corner. Can anyone help me with this? I would also like to know how to calculate my GOTM score. An example would be good, thanks,

And one more thing:

NOT a big map on king level again please... Have spent LOTS of time with this game,
Medium map like it was in GOTM 6 is better. King level is ok but please not on a large map, the game takes to much time,

And my powergraph, still in the upper-right corner though,

Exactly the reason I am not in this GOTM.

When I was checking my score, I used the Excel Spreadsheet that Matrix provided.

As far as the picture, I always did it by using the paperclip... Here is your powergraph.

Today I decided that it was high time to start GOTM 7. So, I've put on Metallica MP3 CD and kicked it off.

After I have built London (Metallica was singing "The House That Jack Built") I have met Celts. Traded techs, etc. Still peaceful. After a couple of centuries they began to accumulate forces near my towns and eventually sneak attacked with a couple of horsemen (Metallica was happily singing "Four Horsemen", the words went "the horsemen are drawing nearer, trying to take your life"). Well, I had some military too and had elephants, so attacked Celtic capital (with the song "Die, Die, Die, My Darling"). AFter that I have researched Map Making (Metallica's response was "So ****ing what?") and went to colonize Europe ("Take my hand, we're off to never-never land"). Soon I found Spanish, who also attacked me, but quite unsuccessfully (Metallica: "To Live is To Die").

I'm in 200AD, I have about 30-35 cities in Europe and thinking about Africa. Spanish are there with 3 cities and so are the vikings. My cities are very small (size 2-3), so science is pretty bad. Overall, it's not a bad game for me (considering that my high score ever is 45%).

Ok don't laugh, I played the game but it took me a while to discover that I was playing on Earht! I didn't read TF post before downloading, actually...
So as I said, as always, I'm surviving and I'm quite slow. Space flight and constructing my spaceship in 1900 AD! But my words of wisdom are always slowly but steadily
tongue.gif

And my mistake was not to destroy the Celts. Finally I took their Cardiff, because they keep on annoying me with their sneak attacks. The French too. They nuked me twice. The mongols were annoying too but I didn't find enough courage in myself to eradicate them
biggrin.gif

Sorry.
Now I'm near the end and once again, don't be surprised if I'm so slow. 1900AD.

Btw, I suggest there should be an extra award, an snail/turtle award, for the slowest player, the slowest finish
biggrin.gif
At least I'd be sure to win it each time...
And if Hippo adds any comments, I bite him.

I took the expand and conquest route.
I first sent settlers to the new world and took the celts with elephants around 1500 B.C. Then I went on the conquer the spanish then the vikings. The babylonians became quite strong but now I am sieging with crusaders and they shall soon fall, my next target is the chinese.

This is my first post and my first GOTM.
I killed the Celts with my first unit,
a horseman, got triremes and elephants and invaded Europe.
The Spanish had taken Trondheim but I captured it quickly and have taken Madrid and Seville as well.
I am in AD20 I have a trireme with an explorer and a settler almost in North-America, 3 cities in the motherland and 3 in Europe. I have met the babs and made peace, I'm looking for the remaining Spanish. I know no one started in America but I expect some Russians, Romans, French or Germans to be there. A good start.

I FINISHED!!!!

Aztecs
Russians

The Chinese and Egyptians were killed by other civs.

I'm on a pc all week and WHAT THE HELL, it couldn't open my macintoshsavegame, what am I going to do all week!?

Anyone can help me with this? My mac can open pc-saves...

Well, I finally am on my way and thought it safe enough to check out the "spoiler" thread.

I did what most did in the very beginning - met the Celts and made nice in the face of their chariot. Founded London and York on the small island and went for map making early. Colonized Europe and spread east and south. Sent ships out to North and South America as well as to Australia. Marco Polo's was a key wonder. It let me know who the civs were and when I figured that the starting points were not random I made a bee line to the unadultered lands.

I have a habit of keeping enemies around for longer than I should and just containing them for a while. Sometimes they can be a trading target and even at times a tech provider (VERY rarely). The Celts are still with me. I just haven't had the time to build offensive units in London or York. Madrid is also around - the only Spanish city. I wrecked Trondheim, but the Vikes had moved into Asia and occupy such Nordic cities as Canton while the Chinese rule Hladir. Oddly enough, it was the Mongols that I killed off first (with the help of the Chinese). Then, an exploring unit wandering about western Canada found two Indian settlers. Oh Jeez, the restart is on. I was able to destroy Delhi right away, but the Indians have spawned again somewhere else. Must hunt them.

For me, the world map was not too huge of an advantage as I NEVER play it. Of course, I know the basic layout and where civs would have started out, but there are people who seem to have known that certain resources were in specific spots where I had to explore. I guess I could have loaded the map itself from the editor or something, but that didn't seem right to me.

Lots of trees to cut down on this map, and plenty of desert and tundra to annoy!

You can see how the world map differs from just about any random map that the computer generates. On most random maps, I find that I have about 85-90% of may cities on a coast somewhere. It's been weird on the world map as to how many of my cities are landlocked and that I need to irrigate over to them.

chofritz-try adding .sav to it.....and/or compress and decompress to get rid of the mac resource fork then add .sav to it.

First, let's help you. As Smash said you can rename in .sav file but there's also something you should keep in mind. If you have Civ 2 Gold you won't be able to open it using civ classic, whether it's mac or PC. I tested that. I started playing on Civ 2 classic on mac and then switched on gold edition. Then I couldn't open the savefile using the classic any more. So also make sure you are using the Gold edition for superior compatibility...

Now back to gotm, well, as I said, I was pretty slow. Reached Centauri in 1929AD. And finally I killed the babylonians. Didn't want to, I am pacifist but they got on my nerves with their sneak attack. The Spanish are annoying too but since I had United nations (actually I got all but 2 of the wonders
smile.gif
) I always send emissary every 2 turns to keep them cool.
Oh btw, they are stupid. They knew that my capital, Londres had SDI defence but they keep on trying to nuke it when the break the cease fire.... Stupid. Anyway, I'm done now. Let's retrieve Matrix email address and send him my saves. Hope he won't loose them again

Excuse me for being so stupid but how do I compress/decompress something?

I use civ 2 classic on both mac and pc. Also tried to rename it to "blair.sav".

I get the error message "this is not a saved game file" or something like that...

Smash I added you to my ICQ, I'll ask you if I see you online...

And now:

I played my first multiplayergame today,
I won against some newbie on www.zone.com he attacked me early with a horseman, but failed. Got 2 archers from huts and went over to him and kicked his capital, his only city (I had 5 or something by that time).

enough **** now...

Hope I'll finish GOTM in a few days I've played for more than 50 h total, crasy! Still I'm in 1360 a.d, must be because I play at night when I'm not so fast,

Have been playing OCC the last few days, I think I'm starting to get the point of it. Played your comparisongame Smash, landed in about 1830 or something first try, but blablablabla I just can't stop. Better post this now,
