GOTM #7 Suggestions

Now that I call real strategy!

Well maybe Hawai is a bit exagerated but why not!

So Matrix Hawai, Australia...What do you think?

Hawaii has some very nice resources. Grapes, Whales, Fish, and there are plenty of islands to settle in the area.

And then to the south...the Polynesian region. I won't waste precious K's with the image though.

Premade maps are ok. There's nothing wrong with a change up here and there. Variety is the spice of life. I think the GOTM should vary. Let's see whose strategy is flexible enough to handle different situations.

Like starting on Greenland?

IF it's the World Map I expect something crazy!

(Here's the conservative administrator again:) But can't we just start as English or Japanese then? How many times have you played the Earth map anyway?

I know I'm only pushing my own opinion. I just don't feel like playing some creepy weird map. We've never used a premade map before. Therefore, let the first one just be the world map.

I guess that's one way to solve the problem. Matrix could customize each tribe in the game, give them crazy names such as Hippo Clan, Shadow Clan, The Marix, etc.
Yes, good idea. The Lords of Frottage, The Army of Light, The Universal Collective Awareness, The Assmasters, The Headbutt Champions for the aggressive ones, The masters of Discipline.
We could also start in...Australia!!!
Excellent idea. I've actually done this. You can win, but it's difficult if the Russians or Mongols are there.
Greenland or Hawaii might be a good test of skill.

We, the All Knowing, All Powerful Hippo Clan, are displeased with our omission. Prepare for WAR!

As long as there's an element of SURPRISE and VARIETY than the world map is great, Matrix.

Playing the Pacific map from Hawai or Australia is something unusual. I thought you guys liked exploration. Well exploration is not only playing in an unknown map; it can also be playing in a way that you are not used to. You explore/discover other aspects of the game. You are forced to think of new tactics and strategies.
Don't you like that?
Now there are plenty of maps to do that

If the opinion of a previous (and hopeful occasional) GOTMer carries any weight, I'll add my 2 cents worth. I've never played on any of the pre-made maps, so the only way I would consider such is if the pre-made map were published ahead of time, as has been suggested, or those familiar with the map would have a distinct advantage, even if they started in some wierd location

Well Matrix has already decided it will be world large because of that reason.

I only gave 6, so there is room for The Hippo Clan. It would be good to change the elephant unit and graphic to a hippo.

We can't make different tribes, because then everyone should have a different rules.txt. That is: not the standard rules.txt. The only thing I can do is to make our own tribe different.

One more thing.

Since it will be World it would be nicer to take DuckOfFlander's World Map which is in the D/l section.
I don't think that should be a problem

Same as the regular world map but waaaay more accurate!

It's a really good quality map.

Funny that I've already discussed that with Thunderfall. But I thought that that map would be far to big. It's 1.425 times larger than the large world map, which already takes a long time to play because there is reletively more land on the Earth than on other random maps. I don't think that's a good idea...

Yeah you're right...

I didn't know that

Could we modify the continental terrain on the current world.mp so that it looks like the DuckofFlanders' one? Does anyone currently have the time?

We can't make different tribes, because then everyone should have a different rules.txt. That is: not the standard rules.txt. The only thing I can do is to make our own tribe different.
People (or a person) could change the Elephant unit to a Hippo and it would be obselete by the end of the game, not affecting anything when opened by someone with the original rules.txt.
Actually, let's give the Hippo an attack and defence of 50 and firepower of 10.

I think the lower the difficulty settings the bigger the map may be.It should be a variety but larger maps could be played here and there on a low level.

I don't understand why, Smash. My guess is: the lower the difficulty, the bigger your empire, the longer it takes. So a large map should be compensated by a high difficulty level, in my opinion...

I hate to disagree with you Matrix, but I think that a lower difficulty setting increases the SPEED at which one can grow an empire. The techs come faster, the AI doesn't cheat as much, and of course unhappiness is minimized so that conquest can occur more rapidly. I know the number of turns is the same, but I seem to be able to complete my turns faster in physical time at lower difficulty settings. Just my opinion...

yup.No units are needed just settlers for the first bit.No temples needed. No happy wonders. No riot factor.Techs are quicker. The ai is slower.
