---------------------------------

So this was an unusual start and an unusual game. No need to discover who the AIs were, just where they were. And 3 wars to cope with. Where did you settle? And most importantly, what did you do with you extra units? Try to capture a city? Pillage? Explore? Disband to save the gold? Did you go for colonizing your own land or did you head straight off to your war opponents for their cities?

Capital 1N on PH.

Isolated start on monarch did cause me some barb problems, I had a lot more barb axes than expected....

My units on the other continent revealed the map and then the survivors harassed the Germans and basically stoneaged Bismarck. :)

Huts gave me 3 techs (Archery, Sailing and one more  ), gold (3 huts), maps (2-3 huts) and one scout and one warrior.

1AD: 7 cities, 22 pop, GLH, missed CS slingshot by about 7 turns.

I'm enjoying the game so far. Not sure I'll find the time to finish, leaving in a few days and will return only by the end of the month.

Also settled 1N on PH. I used the free units to explore and tried to choke the neighbors. Had relative success in delaying Mansa's and Kublai's expansion, but in 1AD only the axeman is still alive. Killed 15 skirmishers and 4 mongolian archers in the process.

Huts gave me Fishing in t1, gold*6, 1 map and hostile barb warriors who gave my Axe some free XP.

1AD: 6 cities, 29 pop, SH, Oracle CS in 650BC and Parthenon - I want to try to win by Culture.

The beginning and cities:
- Scout straight to the Tribal Village (a map) - Settler 1N
#1- Moscow (3960 BC) – 2 clams ==> Worker / Warrior / WB / Settler…
#2- St. Petersburg NW (2280 BC) – 1 sheep
#3- Novgorod NE (1240 BC) – 1 wheat, 1 marble
#4- Rostov NW (850 BC) – 1 fish, 1 horse
#5- Yaroslavl’ E (50 BC) – 2 fishes, 1 fur (on Island)
#6 and #7 next turn…

Technologies, Wonders and Great Persons:
- Fishing / The Wheel / Pott / Writing / Myst / Agric / AH / Poly / Sailing / Masonry / Alpha / Math (6 turns)…
- Just Stonehenge (1800 BC) :(
- 1 Great Prophet (900 BC) settled in Moscow…

The game:
- In another continent: Swords and Spear scouting W – Axe and Explorer scouting E. They destroyed some mines and farms till died by the enemies.
- Tribal Villages: #1: Scout, #2: map, #3: map, #4: new tech -> Fishing, #5: new tech –> Bronze Working, #6: hostile, #7: 48 gold, #8: hostile.
- Circumnavigated the Globe (725 BC) – with a Work Boat :D
- I had some trouble with a few Barb Axes, stopping the buildings to do warriors while waited by the Horses. A giant late to my Empire .
- The intention: was Domination, but with this terrible and poor beginning, no chance. Now is simply to play for learning :coffee:…

1 AD:
- 5 cities (all founded) - Pop 13 / Treasury 64 / 0gpt at 40% / 8 beakerspt
- Last in score (with more five Empires)

My first GOTM :D. It's great comparing progress with others.

Settled on the Plains hill 1N. Got Fishing from a hut on T1, so 1st build was a workboat. Timed it with growth to size 2 and went worker. With all those flood plains research went wheel - pottery otherwise the worker wouldn't had anything to do. Next was BW, and since hinduism wasn't founded by the time, I tried and got it pretty late (luckily I guess). Built the G Lighthouse, Parthenon and G Library is due in 3 turns. Also built an academy in Moscow.

The free units were dispersed around to seek for the tribal villages, and reveal the map as much as possible. Harrased Mansa and Kublay a bit. Even killed a Mongol settler. Only the Explorer is still alive, exploring mansa's territory. Circumvigated the globe with the Explorer/WB combo (from opposite directions).

Didn't fogbust the NE part enough, so a barb axe razed Rostov (Marble/Wheat/Deer city) in the middle of Parthenon production , but I got the wonder in the end. I was late for the Oracle, so didn't bother. Rostov had to be the 3rd city instead of 4th for that to happen (succeed) :(.

Status:
5 cities, 17 pop, low mostly 'cause of infra whipping. A settler on the way, and a few more from the buro capital as soon I finish the G library. There is a nice barb city with two gems on the SE island, and I need to get those furs. Happiness IS a problem.

I do have the G lighthouse, but the mapmaker made a great job blocking the (foreign) trade routes with the AW civilizations ;).

Researching Paper at the moment - 77 bpt at break even (80%). The plan is to divert to Music for the G artist, and double bulb Education after that.

The long term plan is to go space race. Short term kill 'mids bismark as I just a few turns ago noticed he was pretty close. Then the other two. After that, ... the sky (space actually) is the limit.

cheers

I too put my cap on the PH 1N of the start. The free units wandered around looking for huts.

I was outrageously lucky with huts. I popped Agriculture, Masonry, Archery & Animal Husbandry by turn 9, Writing on t15 and Horseback Riding on t21.

I built both Oracle (CS) and GLH. At 25bc I have just settled cites 8 & 9. Lack of foreign trade routes are annoying, as I want to leverage the GLH.

Plan from here, beeline Cavalry to smack down Mansa & Bismark and Astro for trade routes.

My family just moved to a new house, limiting my civ-time, so I finally made it to 1AD--3 days after the submission deadline . I didn't retire and submit since I will probably finish this later, but I'll post anyway for comparison:

In 2040 BC, I built city #2--and circumnavigated the globe! How often do you see that? I did this by building three workboats (1 to explore) and sending out my extra starting units for hut-popping/exploration.

I built Oracle (CS) in my capital around 1200 BC, at which point several barb archers showing up, one of which killed my explorer, who was at 9/10 XP! The rest appeared near my cities, preventing any further wonders. I'm looking to build GLib soon, probably by culture-bombing a city with the Music artist to get marble and then chopping some forests. At 1 AD I have 7 cities and I just got a GS, one turn after Roosy bulbed philo. My plan is to go for a spaceship victory.
