How many other UN members have you met?
Did you destroy any with your Quechuas?
Did you notice anything they have in common?

How many other UN members have you met? 1
Did you destroy any with your Quechuas? No
Did you notice anything they have in common? No - clearly not! :crazyeye:

Barbs were annoying, and still are at 1AD  (Thank god, or Deckhand , for Quechuas)
Huts were nice, 4 techs iirc and experience, no gold.

Settled on Plains Hill. So far, 6 cities, 27 POP.
Commerce is a disaster: IronWorking is my best science, I forgot fishing until now and didn't manage to build huts, so I go for fishing on 0% with 41 rounds. I wonder, if and how I will overcome this. ;-)
I think I got absorbed too much in warring Peeka and the barbs and didn't think enough about commerce.

Barbs are annoying but no real problem, as I have Qechuas and generally a good military force.

> Did you destroy any with your Quechuas?
I tried Peeka, but didn't manage to get Moscow.

> Did you notice anything they have in common?
There are only too, so don't know. These two
1. have unusual names
2. are financial

but at least the second attribute may differ at further leaders I meet?

So after this catastrophe of a start, winning at all will be a success. ;-)

:lol:My experience was a little different:
First hut: barbs spawned, killed my quechua.
2nd hut: popped a scout, who promptly died on next turn to a lion (while sitting on a hill)
3rd hut: popped a quechua
4th hut: barbs spawned, killed my quechua
5th hut: IIRC, about 40 gold

I built 8 quechuas, sent them after Cathy's capital. Obviously a slow "rush" since I had lost three scouting units which I decided to replace in my quest for huts. Great timing, when I DOWed, I found 4 archers in the capital (I suppose she was building a settler). At this point, I was seeing the writing on the wall so I decided to attack anyhow hoping for some lucky combat to resurrect this game. Lost all 8 quechuas without killing one archer.

I decided the RNG's were trying to tell me something, so I decided to abandon.

Went for the Challenger saved game and played a pretty unfocused opening to just past 1 AD in one session... the Barbs were partly to blame, with me waffling between trying to build a Quechua army (that slowly kept dying to the Barbs) and building infrastructure.

I eventually managed to take Cathy's 2nd City, by which time she had 3 other Cities. I started heading for her capital but got turned back by Chariots that ate a good chunk of my remaining Quechua army alive.

So, I expanded to a second self-founded City location (yay) sometime after 1000 BC, I believe (boo--way too late).

I got a Horse Resource and went in with Quechuas and Chariots, managing to take Cathy's capital just as the spoiler date rolled around with an army of something like 6 Chariots (2 died in the field fighting enemy Chariots before being able to engage her City) and 9 Quechuas.

City capture Gold will finally carry me through to the "advanced tech" of Alphabet in a couple of turns... let's hope that Cathy is willing to give us some kind of Peace Treaty tech for our troubles, as with 2 war declarations, I'll likely be her permanent Worst Enemy after making Peace.

The Financial Trait is so not helping me on this map. It may be of use later, but so far, I haven't really been working squares that provide 2 or more base Commerce... maybe that's a problem

The beginning and cities:
#1- Cuzco 1E – Worker, Quechua, Settler, Worker
#2- Tiwanaku 5W (2480 BC) – 1 marble, 1 wheat, 1 silk
#3- Machu Picchu 3S3E (1800 BC) – 1 cow, 1 copper
#4- Ollantaytambo SW (775 BC) – 1 cow, 1 horse
#5- Rostov (captured)
#6- St. Petersburg (captured)

The game:
- Barbarians disturbed a little. I have to produce more Quechuas that I wanted…
- These were my prizes for huts:
#1- 43 gold / #2- Scout / #3- 46 gold / #4- 50 gold / #5- 38 gold / #6- hostile (lost my Quechua). So, a total of 177 gold ;)!
- The dates of World Wonders (of others AIs, I did not build any :mischief:)
The Pyramids (950 BC) / The Oracle (925 BC) / Stonehenge (750 BC) / The Great Lighthouse (450 BC) / The Parthenon (425 BC) / The Colossus (375 BC)
- I met only Peeka in 3680BC. I thought in a Quechua or Chariot Rush, but the distance and situation weren’t appropriate.
- I tried The Pyramids, but I think it was a great mistake, because this decision delayed so much the war …
- The first war was against Peeka in 275 BC with Cats and Quechuas (I had already built them for Barbs, and the main defense of Russians were Archers, so till now it’s working well). Capture two cities (Rostov and St. Petersburg) and next is her Capital Moscow :trouble:…
- I don’t know whether I try the Diplo Challenge or my usual target: Domination, as always. The future tells me…

I was with a weird feeling about this game, but after reading the other players I can be relaxed... As I can see, all had some kind of trouble :whew:!

1000 BC Stats: 3 cities, 12 pop, 3 workers, 8 units (only Quechuas), 0 strategic resources, 0 luxury resources, 2 health resources, 0 great persons, 0 World Wonders, 0 National Wonders, food / production / commerce = 29 / 29 / 17, 21 bpt at 100%, 17 bpt breakeven at 90% with 0 gpt, 91 gold, 4 culture per turn, 0 great person points per turn, 1 granary, 0 library, 1 obelisk, 0 religions, 0/0 cottages used, 9 Techs: Writ, AH, Mas, BW, Mathematics (5 turns), 0 civs killed, 01:12 hours played, Score: #2 (2 Empires) – 186 / 31,927.

Did you notice anything they have in common?

I guess no :nono:! As I met just one I can't compare them! But, on the other hand, looking at the picture of kids, the only thing they have in commom are the white shoes :D (and it can be purposeful)! Is it a signal of world peace? I thought it was a white dove !

This was the most focused game I had in a long time.

I was focused on finding a capital site suited to mighty Inca's financial trait or die trying. So I looked for a few river tiles with food. So I started by heading toward the wet wheat to SW. After a while, turn 35 or so and after finding Peter in another dire looking area. I asked my settler to find a black clad warrior. And finally he did around T41 and I put him out of his miserable existence. :D It took me nearly 15 minutes of total focused play to get him killed. :goodjob:

Why play a game set in Aiel Waste? Every turn I thought I was going to die of thirst. When the barb warriors club struck my settler on the head I said :whew: it is finally over.

Hope the next Game is not in the tundra. Have fun to those who are seeing this to end.

Agree with Falabello: It is really good to know that other players also had some difficulties with this setting.

As start settings at GOTM are normally quite good, this is an interestingly different experience. I realized quite late that I am in serious trouble (as described above) but hopefully not too late. ;-)

Well, I thought I was going along about average, but after reading all of that I am absolutely killing it. I have met everyone (all security council members!!! I called this in the announcement thread), and am just starting to really ramp up my economy. Fended off a lot of barbs (~35) and had a lot of fogbusters early.

I oracled CS, and built GLH, which really helps on this map!

1AD Stats: 9 cities, 26 pop, 8 workers, 11 units (6 Quechuas, 3 Chariots, 2 exploring WB's), 2 strategic resources, 1 luxury resources, 5 health resources, 0 great persons, 2 World Wonders, 0 National Wonders, food / production / commerce = 76 / 59 / -50, 109 bpt at 100%, 52 bpt breakeven at 50% with +1 gpt, 24 Techs, Score: #1 (7 Empires) – 486 / 40,722.
