Hi all,

I haven't found in the Gotm documentation how scores are computed.
Did I miss a chapter ?
Anyway I need help.

If you mean, the score you get at the end of the game, we don't do any explicit computing of that - we simply take the score that the game itself supplies.

Hi all,

Do you mean how the rankings of results for a given game are determined? And how those rank points are "aged" for cumulative ranking?

The best result (best score in score rankings, best speed in speed rankings)gets 100.0 and everybody else gets less. Then the points get reduced each month. I don't know the exact formula's either, or where/if its published. :crazyeye:

I wonder why I bother!

There is comprehensive :p documentation about the Global Ranking calculations in the text at the top of each Global Ranking page on the GOTM site:

Score Rankings page said:
Final scores for each game are converted to a percentage of the highest score achieved in that game.

Speed Rankings page said:
The winning turns for each player are converted to a speed score relative to the fastest victory achieved in that game for that victory condition. The formula used is speed_score=100*(2^(10*(fastest_turns-player_turns)/max_turns)), and comes courtesy of DaveMcW.
Combined Rankings page said:
Players are awarded the better of their Score and Speed Rankings for each game.

All Rankings pages said:
...
The nine monthly scores are progressively aged, then added together to give a total Ranking. The ages of the game groups relative to the 'latest game' are listed in the column headings, and these are used to reduce the weights of the performances in older groups.

In case it's not obvious, the "aging" is linear. The most recent score is not reduced at all. The next older score is multiplied by an age factor 8/9. The next older score by 7/9 ...

Ah, there is the :p I am used to seeing ... I can sleep easier, now that all is right with the world! ;)

Ah! But you were hoping I would poke my tongue out at R1 in another place. This one was directed at my own (lack of) comprehensive documentation!

Not so much hoping you would poke at R1 (I said I was happy you were easy on him), but just surprised (actually, shocked) not to see your trademark there ... :D

Correct. I think that was agreed at the time DaveMcW invented the speed ranking formula.

(But I had to delve into the code to verify it, as it's so long since I implemented it!)

Thank you for your kindness...I actually look at the rankings page sometimes, I just NEVER saw the tab at the top where you can select Score/Speed/Combined.

Thanks for answers.

But what I don't understand is how medals for a specific game are delivered.

From the Pantheon of Heroes Medal pages:

The Medals table lists the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals awarded for first, second and third highest final scores
Final score is the score awarded by the game software. It is the sum of components for population, technologies, wonders and territory, multiplied by a factor based on difficulty level and finish date. The actual formula used in Civ4 vanilla was discussed in these forums way back when, and here. I assume it's still similar in Warlords and BtS, but I haven't checked.

DS gave you that answer in the first reply to your first post.
