The game is in; how did it finish?

What were those Persians on ?, they rampaged and rampaged.

Battled to finish this one. I had heaps of trouble with PTW crashing after I installed CivAssist2, something with the dotnet framework that didn't agree with my laptops setup. Once that was removed it seemed much happier. All I can say is thank god for the autosave. :)

Finished just in time :)
Tough luck on some events, limited time and some sloppiness.
The end result was far from optimal. Anyway better than nothing.
Diplomatic victory in 1295 AD. Firaxis: 5137. Jasons: 8751. I don't feel like deserving an award for this one, hope that someone did beat my date.

Well it was a long slog but I eventually reached 20,000 culture for victory in AD 1974, scoring Firaxis 2764, Jason 2945. Quite a small score given 67 hours played, but it was my first cultural attempt, and hopefully I'll get my first award- for lowest scoring 20k.
By the end only America, England and Spain were left, but they were still some way from space or 100k. My final army consisted of 173 modern armor, in case a rival threatened victory. Interestingly I stayed in republic throughout the game- the unit support in democracy put me off switching.

Well, I shouldn't get your hopes up, but I wouldn't really expect any other 20k submissions for this game, with such an unpromising start location. How did the lack of fresh water pan out? I would have been tempted to move up to the lake, but really the tiles up there are so much worse than the starting area I don't think it would be worth the effort.
Re Democracy: I should hope the anarchy would be enough to put you off switching. For a non-religious civ, late game anarchy can be pretty crippling, and that's a big block of turns where you don't earn culture.

civ_steve,
There is something wrong with my PTW installation. I first noticed that pop-rushing didn't seem to cause unhappiness, and then in another game I noticed goody huts that should not have been there. I was not aware of the problem when I played GOTM68, where I did little or no pop-rushing, but now I'm sure and I want to make this public withdrawal from GOTM68 so that the reason why I won't be in the result table will be clear. I'd hate to cause you a bunch of meaningless work trying to sort out weird code that may or may not show up in the save file.

I'm sorry to hear that, Megalou. Thanks for the heads up.

By the way, I don't remove ALL goody huts in a start file. I do remove all 'nearby' huts, and thin out the ones that are distant, or on remote islands/continents. Still, pop-rushing should always cause unhappiness. I hope you can straighten out your PTW installation.

In that case, the installation may be OK after all. The lack of pop rush unhappiness could perhaps be due to a lower difficulty level? I'm used to content citizens in size 1 towns becoming unhappy after one rush, but I'm also used to playing emperor or deity for the most part.

Thanks.
