GozGram 2 - Mayan Slave Traders

d'oh! I just spent an hour and a half playing the set of turns before I realized that graham was not, in fact the last person to play :o

I will have to be skipped; I leave for Chicago tomorrow morning and will not be back until saturday. Sorry for the long delay with no result at the end, I hate skipping turns like that and will do my best to avoid it in the future :(

Yes I was the last person to play, but you were still up so right to play your turns. Did you do a write up? even if you didn't play them all you should post it just so we get the game moving again.

that's ok nick, i'll try to play and post tonight so we can get this rolling again.

edit: ran out of time again :( play and post tomorrow

Preflight check: Hurry worker in Bapedi to get pop down to 1. Looks like we’re going to lose two Treb’s next turn.

IBT: Zulu offer peace but I wait as I want to make sure we don’t have an MA vs them right now.

T1: 560AD Physics must have been traded further as we drop 3T. Turn sci down to 10% to still get in 1T.

IBT: Inca and Byz sign peace
Physics -> ToG
Byz kill an elite cav in Bapedi, capture a worker near Quiri

T2: 570AD Kill a couple of things but no leader luck. Lose an MDI. Byz are showing up with knights and muskets now.
WW is kicking in. Sign peace with Zulu to see if it helps, get Ngome and Monarchy.

T3: 580AD Kill a couple LB’s outside Moontown. Consolidating forces to take Dyrrachium.

IBT: Musket in Silktown successfully defends against 2 Byz Cav’s.

T4: 590AD Kill an Aztec LB near Zimbabwe, a Byz Pike near Silktown, move stack of arty next to Dyrrachium (byz silk town).

IBT: 3/5 Musket in Silktown retreats a Byz cav.

T5: 600AD Have some terrible RNG but end up capturing and razing Dyrrachium, killing 3 muskets and 1 cav but losing 2 cavs and hurting the army (6/13). Also get 13g and 1 slave.
Kill an elite spear with an elite cav near Vidin and get an MGL! Form another Army which will be filled with cav.
Rush courts in Mayapan, Zit, and Lazapa

IBT: Aztecs and Inca sign peace
Inca and Byz sign MA vs Egypt
Egypt building Shakespears
Aztec’s are building Smith’s

T6: 610AD Kill 3 pikes and a LB trying to cut our roads near Calakmul. There are 2 cav’s and 1 knight coming down. Also, 3 LB’s near Calakmul that will attack next turn.

IBT: Zulu and Egypt sign MA vs Inca
Aztec’s are building Magellan’s
Lose 1 cav and get 1 cav promoted in Calakmul
Inca building Shakespeare’s

T7: 620AD WW is really kicking in now. Hook us silks and that helps. Pillaging army finally gets thru Jungle and heads for Constantinople.
Lose a cav, kill 2 cav’s (+1 promotion) and 1 LB near Calukmul
Hurry Temple in Bapedi so we can have more than 1 source of silks.
Buy Incense from Egypt from Wines, Furs, WM, worker, and 175g

IBT: Mayan want to renegotiate ivory/spice deal. I buy only ivory +92g + WM for wine and furs
Byz are building Shakespeare’s
Egypt building Newtons
Ake riots

T8: 630AD Egypt has a monopoly on ToG. Kill a musket and LB on one of our silks. Pony Army is now next to Constantinople and should be able to cut it off in 2 or 3 turns.

IBT: Aztecs declare on the Persians

T9: 640AD Looks like the Byz are shifting to the W. Move some cav’s over and fill new army (now 11/13). Hurry a couple of MP’s over there to shore up vs landings.

IBT: Persians building Shakespeare’s

T10: 650AD Notice that Byz have Mag monopoly and Egypt has a ToG monopoly.
Wipe out 3 muskets going after a silk near Silktown.
Roads around Constantinople cut off. Army heads for horses.
3 cav’s are 1T N, 2T NW of Bapedi
Nearly lose the cav army taking out a musket in the jungle near Bapedi.

FP due in 2T and we need it. Corruption is pretty severe. Also, our infrastructure is pathetic. we need banks and lib's and well as universities. it's tough to do right now in a war and with our corruption so high but we have to do something soon.

We should be ready to push against the Byz soon. I’ve held down the cav losses while slowly building up our own supply. Hope that speeds up with the FP.

Keep an eye on the tech’s as somethings about to break. We may be able to take advantage of the monopolies by signing peace with Byz but I leave that up to the next player.

The front...

I got it and will see what FP do for us. Infrastructure might need peace, but gaining a good tech for peace is also important.

edit: Where's the save?

I've loaded the save to check the game out since i am joining during the mid-game...
It all looks very interesting and i am waiting for my turns...

One suggestion for the next player and i hope it is not too late..

There is a stack of 20 workers clearing jungle near Moontown. If they are left unprotected Byz. longbow is in reach and will likely capture them.

Pre-turn - FP due in 2t in Kabah, set it to growth without change in the build.

A bunch of worker in the jungle works unprotected, so I move a cav to protect them. I guess grahamiam is still on vacation

Lots of clowns hired? My last statement must be true then :mischief:

Scroll through cities and find that governors are hired too, don't want that. MM cities and change a few builds, gpt jumps by 30 or so.

660AD - We defend against 3 Byz units. Isandhlwana flips to Zulu :gripe:

Kill of 6 byz units and pillage their silks. I'll see if the Pony-army can pillage their horses too next turn.

Rush a couple of settlers.

670AD - We lose 2 cavs against lucky Byz cavs.

We build FP, got jumps to 258.

Pillage Theodora's horses.

We retaliate and kill 4 cavs and get a leader, which builds another army.

680AD - Armies kills 3 muskets and a LB in Chalcedon, we raze the city and capture 5 workers and 2 cannons.

Find 4 stray byz units and kill them, hunting for more leaders.

Damn, Egypt learn ToG and entered next age and 2 more civs knows Magnetism now. Byz still don't want to part with Magnetism, except for huge gpt.

Sell Education to Zulu for all their 82g and have enough money for a steal. Cross fingers and do an immediate steal from Egypt. Success and we've got ToG! :twitch:

If I had missed out, we could always side with Inca and Aztecs against them, we have enough gpt. Inca wouldn't pay a penny for ToG, so this was the time.

Ok, neg peace with Byz. ToG and 21gpt for Magnetism and 15g and peace of course. They get Medicine as their free tech. If I remember correctly, no slaves when we sign peace?

Peace with Aztecs and the people are happy again.

Sell Mag to Persia for PP and 9 gpt, disband slave.

Another joyful round of MM'ing. We better use the peace for infrastructure, so I will build aqueducts, market and banks first, with the occasional temple and court here and there.

Rush 3 more settlers. Swap the cav-build in Chichen to Newtons, due in 13 turns.

So after MM'ing we have 312gpt.

690AD - Byzantines completes Magellans. And Egypt starts Shakes and Newtons.

700AD - Persia completes Smiths, Egypt Shakespeares.

We won't get Newtons, but we can still build Military Academy and Pentagon.

710AD - Byz completes Newtons and I switch to Military Academy in Chichen.

Rubbish, Byz's borders expands one turn before I can plop down my settler, I just hate that!

720AD - I give Zulu Music Theory for 2 slaves.

730AD - Why spending gold on buying techs when you can steal them? Persia learnt Steam IT and traded it with Byz, spend 1100g on immidiate steal from Persia and get away with it again.

Geez, we need a lot more workers. Luckily we have one source of coal. And another one not connected.

740AD - We can build Ironworks in Moontown (or Marshfield) Rush court in Marshfield to see if it can be done.

Byz knows Nationalism.

750AD - Egypt wants us to ally against Byz, no thanks.
Byz destroys Zulu, finally.

We need a gazillion workers.

I didn't rush much stuff, we have 994g and 393gpt to spend. I founded a few town near Byz's borders though, but I didn't care to protect them yet. Next player might want to spend the money, that might help us a bit.

I also forgot to send some reinforcement to our only saltpeter-city . I was going to send an army there, but I forgot :crazyeye:

There is a stack of 20 workers clearing jungle near Moontown. If they are left unprotected Byz. longbow is in reach and will likely capture them.

Come on, would I miss that?

Actually, I would've missed it if I didn't spend a good time MM'ing and counting units. So thank grahamiam for being sloppy. If the save had been by his usual standard, I certainly would've missed it :)

christ, must've been really nasty. sorry 'bout that. promise to do better next round

Haha, when did you ever pass over a save filled with clowns before? No worries, we are all allowed to be scatterbrained now and again :)

At least you had Chichen on 20 shields

You guys are funny,
one question about the game...
I understood the part of trading or disbanding a worker when trading.
But how about researching, do we have research off as a rule of the game or just as a strategy?

our infrastructure is pretty weak so right now, buying/stealing is faster than researching. if we can get lib's and uni's built, maybe we can start doing our own. however, i'd rather get rid of byz (damn rifles!) so we can start concentrating on other landmasses and banks/markets are better for that. we've handicapped ourselves by letting the FP build take so long but, then again, we had more pressing issues to resolve :)

Deal, I will play tomorrow night

Pre-turn checkup:

I didn't realize how hard it is to start playing in the middle of the game...
well... it's been 15 minutes and I am still starring at the screen and have absolutely no clue on what our general strategy is, so I will try to keep my profile low and build a little of infrastructure...

Do we keep those 3hp warriors for any particular reason?? Anyway I’ve disbanded them and sent an army to protect our only saltpeter city.

IBT: Theodora asks as to leave her premises. Ok, will do

T1 760AD. Xerxes does not have coal and he is a one wealthy guy, we need to hook up the second coal source and milk Xerxes
Sold steam power to Incas for 110Gold and 75GPT + Economics, disbanded a slave (that is how we do it right?)
Sold SP to Egypt for Gems Spices 14gold 31GPT and WM disbanded another slave.
That's the spirit our people are so much happier now
Few workers been born this turn, dispatched them and other mostly to do railroading.

T2 770AD We have nice income right now, I’ve rushed bunch of marketplaces and banks on our core, next turn workers and then we need to build up some military forces.
Dispatching workers to put railroads. Byzantium made peace with Egypt.
Theodora gave us WM and 20Gold for her WM

T3 780 AD
As I said before, this turn I am building bunch of workers and dispatching them to do tasks, rushed few more building

T4 790 AD...
All cities that finished building switched to workers.
Not much is going on

IBT Inca and Xerxes made peace

T5 800 AD
Aztecs would pay 22GPT for Steam power...I’d like to wait one more turn. We hooked up second coal, but Xerxes is not willing to pay money I expected from him.
Mostly railroading, nothing much is going on... I'd like to have some infrastructure ready for the next player while we are at peace with Theodore. I am not building any universities; we better build them when we have railroads and factories, takes too long time now.

t6 810AD sold sp to Aztecs for 23gpt and all the gold they had, disbanded a slave

T7 820AD
Railroads... railroad... more railroads...
Make another trade Inca gives ivory + some gold we give silks and wines

IBT: we lose incense and Egyptians are not willing to give us good deal.

T8 830AD
Railroads... AIs are all of the sudden broke.
Inca demands world map and 89 gold... there have it for now, but i keep my check book records :twitch:
T9 840 AD
More railroads...

T10 850 AD...
Even more railroads....

Well, it's over... I’ve built some infrastructure and several cities are building cavalry... we have 70 workers plus unknown number of slaves.

Our treasure 3082 Gold +511GPT...
Next player may try to steal medicine from AIs.
I guess the main task for the next player is to build good number of cavalry; we should be able to do it in quite a short time since most of the core will be railroaded in just few of turns.
I am building cavalry in Chichen; it takes too long to build an army without a factory.
There is also a settler heading to the empty land on peninsula. Few border cities are building temples, feel free to change to whatever feels suitable.

Yes that right, although I feel that the worker trading/disbanding was only really relevant at the start of the game, right now with so many workers, I feel it makes no difference.

We did discover that we could not trade workers with a civ that we had no trade route to, so for those civs we just disbanded. Right now we should have the trade routes so should give them away for each trade, although as I said, the main point was in the early game.

I'm up for sure now, and will play, but cannot look until tomorrow.
