GR6 - Persia II - AW Demigod.

GR6-1848AD.JPG

A final twenty-five TOW come off the map when the Celts are eliminated.

We pick off three Ott inf and a Sipahi (143-9).

The Ottomans refuse to attack either a TOW army in a flatland city or an inf army in a hill town (both size one without walls), so another scheme to get them to commit mass suicide fails.

1850 (5): We take Hieraconpolis, held by three spearmen, with marines, and eliminate the "Strong Egyptians" (146-9).

We defeat one Mongol rifleman in Choybalsan, but lack the marines to do more (147-9).

We found Antioch 2 to gain access to Salonika, then take Salonika from its garrison of three inf and a Sipahi, razing the town for three workers (151-9).

We take Aydin, held by three inf, capturing three artillery (154-9).

We auto-raze Karabuk, held by two inf (156-9).

We found Gordium 2 to gain access to Kirklareli (held by two inf), which we then auto-raze (158-9).

We take Konya, held by six TOW and a Sipahi, which contains the Ottomans' Wall Street and Iron Works (165-9).

We take Zonguldak, held by two inf, and capture an artillery (167-9).

The Ottomans get rather lucky attacking Aydin with Sipahis, destroying a TOW and a tank, but don't take the town (167-11).

1852 (6): We take Choybalsan (the Mongol one-tile-island city) from its remaining garrison of one rifleman, destroying three frigates and a galleon in port (172-11).

We take Erdenet on the island the Mongols share with the English, defeating three riflemen and capturing a worker (175-11).

great progress, think we will be able to finish it off within 2-3 turnsets.

Celts are gone so fast after almost losing out to them

Do we definitely want Conquest? I suspect we're creeping up on 66% land with the cities we've captured and built. Either way to win is fine by me, I just need to know whether to be on the lookout to abandon cities or stop capturing cities from our non-Ottoman opponents.

That is, if NP leaves me with any enemies.

well, if we are about to achieve domination, so be it, maybe NP could provide the save before that and anyone interested could play to conquest on their own.

It is crazy, isn't it. Once they failed on the UN it was just to easily to rip them apart. The kill ratios were just to brutal on the AIs during my turns, and it is just as rough on NPs turns.

that' the modern warfare AI, they simply can't handle that well, they could have ripped us apart there. Let's hope the Civ4 AI will be more challenging, but I doubt so.

We take Iznik (abandoned), Uskudar (razed), Bursa (razed), Edrine (abandoned), and Riza (razed), defeating in total 18 inf (193-11). We capture five artillery and a settler, also collecting ten slaves from razed cities. In the process we found six tactical towns.

Outside cities we overrun two Sipahis and an Ottoman inf, capturing three workers and an artillery (196-11).

We abandon three Ottoman towns taken last turn.

An exposed tank defeats the attack of one Ott guerrilla but loses to a second (197-12).

1854 (7): There are eight cities on the Ottomans' southern peninsula, starting with Istanbul at the northern end. It should be possible to take them all this turn.

We take Istanbul (four inf and a flak; 202-12), capturing an artillery, then abandon it in favour of a tactical town.

We take and abandon Izmit (three inf, one artillery captured) and Antalya (three inf), then found another tactical town (208-12).

We take Sinop (three inf and an ironclad sunk in port), Mugla (two inf), and Kafa (three inf), then abandon the former two in favour of tactical towns (217-12).

We take Ankara, garrisoned by two inf, and capture an artillery (219-12).

Bolu, the last peninsular town, is behind a complete screen of mountains, but our cav armies do their job (two inf; 221-12), and:

We sink an Ott galleon which, conveniently, turns out to contain two of their three settlers, along with an inf and a guerrilla (224-12).

We sink another Ott galleon and account for their last settler, along with two Sips and an inf (228-12).

We get started against the English home island, taking Oxford (two riflemen, a cav, and a spearman; 232-12) and then replacing it with a native port.

We abandon Ankara, Kafa, and Bolu, and found a port city to give us access to the last Mongol city, Dalandgadzad.

We pick off a Sipahi and two Ott ironclads (235-12).

An English destroyer appears, but sinks attacking one of our destroyers (236-12).

1856 (8): We take Dalandgadzad (two riflemen; 238-12) with marines and eliminate the "Glorious Mongols".

We take Warwick (two riflemen; 240-12) on the English mainland, then abandon it to found a tactical town.

We take Hastings (three riflemen and a guerrilla; 244-12), then replace it with two tactical towns.

We take and abandon Coventry (three riflemen; 247-12).

We take London, held by six riflemen (253-12).

We crush five scattered Ottoman inf (258-12). The Ottomans are down to an island OCC, but they still have sixty units or so roaming harmlessly around what used to be the Richborough area.

We overrun an English cav outside Dover (259-12).

An empty transport (rushed, and so unescorted) is sunk by an English destroyer (259-13).

We get a palace expansion. I'm glad it wasn't a domination win, since I hit Enter before checking. :D

1858 (9): We take the island city of Bingol with tanks (two inf; 261-13), and:

Ninety-three assorted Ottoman units come off the map. We abandon Bingol.

We take and abandon the island city of Dover (three riflemen; 264-13), capturing a worker, and the English are down to four cities in their heartland.

We found a tactical city between London and Nottingham.

We take Nottingham (four riflemen and a destroyer; 269-13), abandon it, and found a tactical town.

We take York (three riflemen and two workers; 272-13) and replace it with a tactical city.

We raze Newcastle (two riflemen; 274-13), gaining three workers.

We take Canterbury (three riflemen; 275-13) and eliminate the "Glorious English". Ten English units come off the map.

Thus:

Forty-eight elite victories this round, two of them defensive, generated four Great Leaders.

Congratulations to all on a dramatic and well-played game. Our only error, I think, was in trying to get started on the main continent with cav armies operating alone. This was absolutely the right tactic for crushing backward opponents isolated on islands, but in dealing with multiple advanced opponents we should have stuck to traditional AW methods with a lot of bombardment units. But I don't regret the mistake, since it was what made the game interesting, as often happens.

:goodjob: NP, who would have thought it would be that fast now

congrats to the whole Team for a great game , we all learned a lot of tactics I guess.

What's next since AWDG seems to be winnable. Pangaea? Or just a wait for Civ4 ;)

I must admit that I thought the game had more time left then that.

Congrats to NP of a very efficient finish. ;)

I must say looking at the replay the last turns were extremely fast. Did you all see the power graph? :crazyeye:

Great finish NP.

For the next game would anyone be interested in a Monster map AWM game - 30 opponents on a 240x 240 map?

Every AWM game we have played has been fairly easy, but then I haven't tried it with a lot of opponents.

This game would have long turns of a large map - one would have longer to play. It would definitely be a time commitment though I would allow more time to play ones turn (probably 96 to play rather than 48) so in part the game would just take longer to finish.

Question is if I can actually get 3 or 4 other players willing to attempt it?
