Of course it is not a driver issue. If something works, than a "patch" comes out and it no longer works, where may be the problem? But they can not simpy say sorry guys, we screwed up, it will be fixed in x days. No, the problem is on our side, we should reinstall drivers (and why not the whole system?) because they broke the game. And still no official word on when they will fix it or how can we roll back to a previous, perfectly playable version.

My theory is that it is an "overlay" of graphics problem. Could be an issue with how windows handles views, since it deals with an upgrade to windows 8 which is probably worse at windowed views than 7 was?

Same issue for me on larger maps, mostly late game. The longer the game goes on, the quicker the problem occurs and forces me to reload.

Not sure why the textures load so slowly! If I scroll over the map slowly, it will visibly load the textures as I go, but if I do it too fast it will load a few and then give up on the rest, leaving either black squares or just grey.
There's an option to disable GPU texture decoding in the video settings. Disabling that helps, but seems to lower the framerate a lot.
    So frustrating!

Edit: I run in DX11 mode on max settings.

The anwer is easy. Because some "genius" in Firaxis thought it may be an excellent idea to mess with the rendering in a game famous for rendering problems. Because when, after two years, the game was playable for most people, this "update" was really needed... I hope that "genius" has already been fired.

I don't understand why this patch has ruined my game play. I have been playing for months without a single crash or problem. Now I can't get more than a dozen turns without a crash or freeze and I have the white lines/streaks on the game. I've tried both DX9 and DX10. I've tired the last three Nvidia drivers and the beta driver and it's all the same. What can I do?

    I have a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480

    My dxdiag is attached.:(

I can't run DX11 as I used to. I crash at the intro screen when I select DX11 from the Steam "Play" button. I checked drivers via AlienWare/Dell site and updated all. Still no help. I lowered from HIGH to MED and play now on DX9. Sadly only smaller maps. But I still get "smear lines" from units and the old "Phantom unit" after an attack move is back in play.

FYI...my compatability setting are all set to windows7 ....used to work before patch.

BTW...why is the MOD screen not keeping selected MODS from a current game setup!? Always used to. You have to remember now what you loaded and re-select them before you can load a saved mod-game. If you miss one you get red/white checker board and crash.

    Attached is the file:

You should definitely update your Intel HD Graphics drivers to the October 2012 version, and we'll go from there. There are known issues with the older Intel drivers that they corrected in the most recent release.

Ok. I just updated my Intel Graphics driver to the latest version. Still get the crash screen at startup upon selecting DX11.

    Here's new: View attachment DxDiag.txt

Try DX9, the smear should be gone (if everything worked; EDIT: DxDiag says it has been updated correctly).

The new patch is the problem. I'm not changing anything; because the game ran fine until the latest patch. I just won't play the game until they update the patch.

Not to be a jerk, and maybe this isn't helpful to say, but if it was "just the patch causing problems", no one would be playing. I've experienced no problems. Thousands of people are playing Civ5 through steam.

I have the same problem as many people I have seen post regarding the most recent patch. After a few turns, gray tiles stop rendering, then they soon just stay black with red dots. I'm disappointed, since I was excited about the patch. It is almost unplayable this way. I hope it is fixed soon. Here is my dxdiag. Is there a problem I can fix on my end? Actually, if there are any other tips based on this, I would appreciate that, too. Thanks.

Since it was mentioned here: Could somebody please try if enabling/disabling the gamecore threading in the ini makes a difference?

Tried that and had no luck.

I agree with those here who are angry over these problems. If everything worked fine before the patch (as it did for me--mods, drivers, and all) why should we (the customers) be required to jump through hoops to make the patch work? Undo it, fix it, and re-release it as a "voluntary" patch when you are sure it works.

Another thing about drivers. I tried installing the drivers from Dell and received a message saying that I have newer drivers already installed. Now what? :crazyeye:

Could you please take a look in the Civ V root folder and see if there are any .mdmp files that have date/time stamps that match your most recent crash? If there are, I would love to take a look. Thanks.
