Great general has zero effect.

During my conquest of Ethiopia (in which also I noticed a bug preventing my GG from gaining XP) I began to notice that my army was having a suspiciously hard time in straightforward combat. My general was maxed out on morale promotions, so it must be giving 50% extra damage, but that didn't seem to be the case. I experimented a bit in WB, and the same thing happened.

Yes you can one great feature about c2c is save game compatibility even though you might not want to or you will suddenly get a ton more or less money

The code behind GCs is VERY VERY VERY performance sensitive (it gets called tens of millions of times per turn). Can you tell m where you made a tweak so I can have a look please.

The Great General (Chandragupta Maurya) in your swordsman stack in this save is not a great commander. He's just a great general. He has no 'make commander' option because this game doesn't have the great commanders option selected.

How do I change it? My GG was gaining experience in my Carthage game during the conquest of Assyria. Can that happen without being a Great Commander? I didn't even see it listed as an option. I really, really don't want to have to start a new game...

Btw, that was a game started on default setting (not custom) for the sake of the experiment. The Carthage game was customized, though.

That's why then (standard has no great commanders). Can you post your actual game where it's not working (with any necessary instructions on sample attacks to try and so on).

I don't remember ever getting a bonus, in fact. Just go in WB and make your own battle.

Won't help - its definitely working for me in my own game (I debugged through it there yesterday to b sure), so it certainly isn't a general failure. As such it must be something specific about your game or your set of options or something.
