FF9 gives the fans nostalgic feel about the series, given that they decide to go towards the art directions set by FF8.

Personally, I prefer the series up until 9(minus FF8, because it sucks), haven't play 10 though.

As for the weapons, BURN THEM! Die Fetchers! I especially hate Emerald weapon. Stupid multi-attack ability.
