Grouping units together

I haven't heard this question asked in the forums (at least not recently), but has anyone heard if it is possible (like in CivIV) to ctrl or shift click any number of units that you wish to move together? I know with 1UPT this would be more complicated (especially when you reach areas that wouldn't support as many units as you are moving), but the alternative sounds like a pain (moving each unit, while trying to keep formations in order).

There's nothing about in the manual and some reviews say moving units is a pain.

As you said, with 1UPT there's hardly any relevance to grouping. You're right that in theory units can move in formation, but there are too many possibilities that goes wrong. I doubt it'll be supported.

Oh well...it was worth hoping for, especially if you're on a pangaea map, it would make sense and make turns move much faster. Combat looks like it will be much more exciting, but getting my units to enemy cities looks much less fun

Yeah, there's nothing for this except there will be less units, especially early in the game. Units are quite expensive. And with forest only giving +1 food, and hills 0 food, production is harder to come by.

it would be nice if you could select a group of units in formation, and tell them to move to a spot and reform that formation. they wouldn't need to hold the formation on the move, but if they would automaticaly set uyp again once at the destination it would be nice

I'd hoped for a group selection mechanic to reduce MM, but it doesn't seem like we're getting one.

You will be able to group move units of the same type, i.e you can group 2 or more warriors together, or 2 or more swordsmand together, or 2 or more archers together, and move them in formation, but you can't mix type's. I.e can't move a warrior and swordsman together.

"Maybe I should got play some Diablo to build up my finger clicking strength." Try Torchlight instead.

Lazy folk like me will miss stacking. I did not mind it at all.

Civ 5 leans towards war game. CivWars. I want to try out the idea and give it a fair chance. But is this really Civ V or CivWars I? We will all find out tomorrow.

i've got just one word for you.
tactics.

I really hope that there is a way to move units via keyboard (I hate mouse movements in a Civ game). Some keyboards do have more than 4 arrow keys.

Yep, you can use the numpad to move units like you have been able to do since Civilization 1.

It uses 741 963.

I had posted a quit example of how this could be done in this post http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=9520357#post9520357

Someone had replied that it wouldnt work because what if one unit ends up on a mountain or in water. I'd guess it could work like all over Civ games, if you have a land unit, you cant tell it to go to an ocean tile. Also with unpassable mountains, im guessing the right code could tell the units to 'break formation' to go around it.

I mean, theres complex scripts that reproduce water drops, trickling around objects, and theres games like baulders gate, where you control a party of people in a formation, when theres an object, sometimes 3 go left, and 1 goes right, and they reform on the other side.

Wasn't one of the reasons to put 1upt in the game the reducing of MM ?

Oh we're certainly have less units, but remember you could move your stack of 100 tanks with one mouseclick. I know there's less units now, but I'd imagine a good sized army would still be at least 10-30 units (depending on the map size). Moving 30 units at a time....good god

I actually heard this time around (for the first time) you have to use a mouse to move, but that could have just been a rumor. It's not under the keyboard shortcuts in the manual (although I wouldn't really consider using the num pad a shortcut anyhow)
