grs1 - the roman legions

Since we won't do free palace jump I think the palace in rome is not that bad. I agree totally on a fp in china or japan territory and the military academy. We will have to fish some more leaders.

@Vizurok: If you play while the forum is down, you could send me the save file and description via mail. I'd be happy to play on the weekend.

Well, sorry again for lating.
I've downloaded the save on Friday, but the file did'nt work. After that I could not use the forum, so I can't download it again. I downloaded it now, and playing it...

I had very good turns, both in military and science...
But Im not sure how can we conquer the world with legions. Its very hard to kill a fortified spearman in a town, they usually redline the legions. The continenet will be ours, but I dont think that we will be able to conquer the another continent.

Turnlog:

Preturn:
Research set on 60% - we can get Monarchy in 1 turn, too.

Turn 1 (330 BC)
Our scientists have mastered the secrets of Monarchy, and they are going on Currency in 8 turns with -13gpt. Good news: We get Construction from Abe and Mao.

Entremont: Warrior --> Legion
Veii: Warrior (WHY?) --> Settler

Galley finds an island near the Japanese coast.
Attacks on Washington, total loss: 1 warrior.

Turn 2 (310 BC)
Rome: Legion --> Legion
Moscow: Barracks --> Legion
Alesia: Warrior --> Temple
Hispalis: Barracks --> Legion
Virconium: Galley --> Galley

Washington is ours, the Capital of America has fallen :) Starts warrior.
We conquer Osaka, too, but it gets autorazed. We have had heavy losses, every unit is redlined... healing.

IT: Japanese archer appears, and kills a legion and two road-building workers... Damn! :mad:

Turn 3 (290 BC)
Kiev: Legion --> Legion
Cumae: Legion --> Legion
Lugdunum: Legion --> Temple
Neapolis: Legion --> Legion
Ravenna: Galley --> Settler
Lutetia: Barracks --> Legion

Kill the archer, but the workers were disbanded.
Japanese settler appears near the ruins of Osaka.

Turn 4 (270 BC)
Rome: Legion --> Legion
Smolensk: Barracks --> Legion
Pisae: Temple --> Legion
Caesaraugusta: Barracks --> Legion

Kill the Japanese settler pair... two workers...
Our Legion attacks Kyoto, and:
GrsRome4.jpg

Granary everywhere: that's great! :D

IT: American horse and warrior attacks Washington, we win without losing HP.

Turn 5 (250 BC)
Veii: Settler --> Settler
Antium: Legion --> Legion
Brundisium: Barracks --> Legion

Moving, healing, not very interesting...

IT: A barb galley attacks our galley, he fails.

Turn 6 (230 BC)
Rome: Legion --> Legion

AAArgh!!! I cant believe it! I atack a non-fortified regular warrior on plains with a veteran Legion, and we lose him. He must be Asterix! :) But what is he doing in the american Army?

Turn 7 (210 BC)
Pompeii: Temple --> Legion
Syracuse: Worker --> Legion

San Franciso autorazed.
Chinese sword arrive to Tokyo. Good, I cant get that city, so they will wound the defenders.
Research on 50%, Currency 1 turn, -1gpt.

IT: Both Swords die. Chinese settler pair is heading to ex-Osaka.

Turn 8 (190 BC)
Many cities --> Legion
expect Rome: Legion --> Temple

We have Currency! Research set on CoL, due in 4 turns, -21 gpt. I decided to advance to the medievals before the revolution.

Our troops are marching into Tokyo.
It seems that we've found a pass to the other continent... maybe.

Turn 9 (170 BC)
Veii: Settler --> Settler
Cumae:Legion --> Legion
Pisae: Legion --> Legion

Nara autorazed.

IT: China and America signs Peace Treaty.

Turn 10 (150 BC)
Hispalis: Legion --> Legion

Jerusalem founded, yes we had to, Jesus will born in 150 years...
New York autorazed, we get a worker.

Scrennies:

The Core of the Roman Empire

Ex-Japan, Japan and China
grsRome6.jpg

Ex-America, America
grsRome7.jpg

Summary: Not necessary...
Revolt after CoL, then Monarchy.
Military: Build Legions! :)
Only one thing: a galley is sailing in the sea surrounded with ocean, I hope it will see land, not dead-end...

Good luck to

The Save:
Glory to Rome!

Oh, I forgot it: I didnt start buiding marketplaces, dunno why, so change the Legions to Markets...

Looks like good turns! I have been seeing that problem with the other continent coming too. Here are my thoughts. Of course we have to find them. Once found we have the economy to gather contacts and maps. Get a dogpile going on the bigdogs over there and get ALL of them fighting to slow down their tech and infrastructre building. Get the Lighthouse or navigation and while keeping them fighting go make our grand entrance on the new continent. I think it is important to get some suicide goiing, and quick.

Pre-Turn: some mm to stop riots, some waking of units

IBT: Kiew legion - legion, order restored in Tokyo and Kyoto, Antium legion - legion

130bc: elite legion kills Japan archer, redlines, troop movement, research to 50%, currency in 1

IBT: we enter the middle ages, Rome temple - market, Pompeii legion - legion, Lutetia legion - aquedcut, piece of palace

110bc: research to zero, hire a scientist , feudalism in 40 (for Sun Tzu's), revolting, hire a ton on taxmen and entertainer - we are already late revolting - too many big cities - we get 6 turns anarchy

IBT: nothing

90bc: moving troops

IBT: we get rop from China, suicide galley sinks

70bc: found Caesarea

IBT: we hear of a barb uprising near Atlanta, Japan has a Galley out of Edo

50bc: Edo: elite kills spear (-3), vet loses to reg spear (promotes), vet kills vet spear (promotes), vet kills spear takes edo, 1 resister, Boston: elite kills spear (-1), vet kills spear (-2), we take boston, 2 slaves, 1 resister, we spot a yellow border overseas

IBT: a barb horse kills a slave worker

30bc: we kill horse, and meet cleo, she has contacts with greek, arabs, french and ottos and does know nobody on our continent (which we prefer to stay for now), she is down philo, currency and monarchy, we give her monarchy and 250 gold for all her contacts and her map - we keep ours for now. We now know everybody but the Spanish - they have an isle of their own. As Alexander and Osman have monotheism we will get it soon. Bad thing is: we have no safe way to cross and it seems not even the Great Lighthouse will give us one, as shortest cross is 6(!) fields.

IBT: we lose more workers...

10bc: vet legion kills an american sword

IBT: barbs attack and pillage, we are now a monarchy

10ad: we lose a vet capturing Satsuma; building embassies: Athens: size 4, greeks in anarchy; Mecca: size 1, 3 lux, still despotism; Thebes: size 3, 4 lux, monarchy; Paris: size 5, 4 lux, great wall in 7, still despotism; Instanbul: size 6, 4 lux, building the great wall, in Anarchy. We declare on Ottos, pay Joan with Monarchy to join, the greek pay us 15 gold and map to join, we declare arabs and pay cleo 20gpt to join, that should get them moving.

IBT: barb horses attack, we gain 2 elites and lose one immediately, Entremont legion - legion, Moscow legion - marketplace, Neapolis legion - galley, Ravenna legion - galley

30ad: killing barbs, this really delays us, but it has to be

IBT: barbs kill a vet and pillage, china attacks japan archers and get a leader - they have a lot of swords now, Washington warrior - warrior, Veii settler - legion, Pisae legion - legion, Brundisium legion - legion

50ad: we raze Kagoshima, Japan is out of the game, killing barbs gives us another elite, America has 2 cities left, we should declare china after rop runs out - I should not have taken it ... maybe we should just cancel it before entering their territory.

No sea passage makes it rough. This means we need to speed up research and slow them down so we get navigation WAY before they get Rifles or cavs. Pick the biggest civ over there and declare and then declare on another and then drag the rest in on top of those two. Then blaze our path towards navigation while taking out China. As long as they don't know China we can bust the ROP and as long as they are dead prior to contact it is OK. Build markets and banks for cash to rush legions and galleys that will upgrade to caravels. Hopefully we will have 100+ legions ready to go when we get to navigation.

Got it.

Play tomorrow.

Not good. We need to get our research up fast and go straight to navigation. Can some one post mini map?

I concur with what I think you are saying about researching Feudalism. SunTzu's would have been nice if we we're only fighting on our continent. It will be useless for us on this continent. It would be a nice target city for one of our first landings, especially if coastal. Let the AI have it over there. Head towards navigation. Lots of legion, 20-25 boats and cash generating buildings. If the FP isn't up yet get one soon for more cash and legions.

grs1 50AD

It takes a while but I locate the American Invasion Force in the jungles of Boston. Hire a tax collector in HIspalis to forestall riot. Turn up the heat on the scientists to get us to Feudalism in 7 at a sunk cost of 357g

Etruscan horseman go on a rampage. Ransack Caesarea and we lose 15g

T1 70AD
Kill four Etruscans and lose a vet legion to one outside Washington

Start assembling a Chinese invasion force in the East and move the American force towards Miami

T2 90Ad
Manuvering to Miami. Kill another Etruscan horseman.
With Feudalism due in 5 switch Rome to Hanging Gardens to accumulate shields for SunT's.
Etruscans kill warrior in Washington and take 12g. Their horsemen also attack Miami and promote the garrison spear to elite but wounded. They also hit Lugdunum just before covering legion gets there and destroy the temple foundations.
Ottomans finish the Great Wall
Pisae grows and riots

T3 110AD
Assembling in the east for China Invasion. Kill another Etruscan outside Atlanta

Battle for Miami
Elite American spear kills attacking vet legion. Elite legion cripples elite spear. Elite legion kills elite warrior. Vet legion kills crippled spear and Miami is Roman. Vet sword kills last Etruscan horseman in jungle

Egypt and Ottomans sign an alliance against us

T4 130AD
Build Tarentum in east on coast.

T5 150
setting up for attack on Seattle
Another Etruscan attacks Atlanta and destroys work on Legion

T6 170AD

T7 190AD

T8 210AD
Lose a galley looking for islands to the west
Battle of Seattle
Elite legion killed by elite spear
ELite legion kills vet spear
Vet legion kills crippled elite spear and Seattle falls and burns
In a foolhardy move single vet legion attacks Philadelphia and dies.

T9 230AD

T10 250
Whack a barb get a promotion to elite by a galley and a legion.
The Amerika Killers are healing in the rubble of Seattle and will be ready to move on Philly on the next turn. There are legions in place to move on China in the NE and SE. Galleys are moving up both coasts for patrolling duties and to be ready to pick up the victorious legions for the invasion to the east. SunT is due in Rome in 20 and nobody we know has Feudalism yet. Theology is due in 9 @-45gpt with 626 in the bank. There is a settler in place to close the choke east of Entremont with garrison troops ready to attack China when the time comes. The Chinese have been schlepping settler pairs around in the east and legions are waltzing with them to try and guide their schlep.

Amerika Killers

I will be out of town with no game or Interent acess until Wednesday next week. Please skip if needed.

Is the rest of the civs on the other continent at war? We need them all in a balanced war to cause some attrition and slow the tech pace to a snails crawl for them. Keep them at war. My $.02

They are all at war at our instigation.
