Diplomatic victories are not fun. If you are in the lead, the AI sinks all of its votes to guarantee you lose a vote. Then you're stuck waiting another 20-30 turns to do it again. A pure slog.
It actually took me by surprise to see the AI work against me like that. It makes total sense but I cannot see how the diplomatic victory can really be anything but a bury the leader moment.
Haha, I built two improvements with my first setter and set him out into the world. He's the only guy who can get out--that hidden tile up to the NorthEast is also a mountain. I guess I am pretty safe for now though.
I'm making a Campus on that obvious spot in the South and am just going to head for navigation after that.
Playing as French Eleanor and the AI is selling me all their great works for between 17 and 24 GPT, hilariously causing their cities to flip over and giving me more gold income to buy more great works. Pretty sure I will convert the entire continent at this rate.
First game of GS playing as my favorite civ Norway. I start closer to another Phoenicia then I do to iron or horses. This happened in R&F but now the resource system no makes this problem worse because I have guess at how many iron I need to trade for rather then knowing I can build a encampment and trade for the one. I get a nice 12 gold trade route to Phonecia going. Dido likes me because my cap is the only city I have on the coast. Once I start expanding and putting two cities on low loyalty pressure spots she gives me a warning. Phonecia is the only civ with more then one or two tiles on the coast to raid.
I going to take me a little while to get used to the new look. The game display felt like it was running a little slower the R&F. After watching the streams and seeing the Leader animations I realized what I'm missing playing on my MacBook.

I won a fairly comfortable diplo victory and never lost a vote even once, though I was playing as Sweden and was pretty much drowning in diplo points. I always had about twice the diplo points of the runner up.

This happened in the 1 game I have played so far but it makes sense, so I'll submit to the thread.
If you can catch Mansa Musa off guard he's really east to roll. It was like playing on marathon speed. I conquered 4 cities before I even saw a unit. I think it's because of the production malus. There were trade routes galore to plunder as well. That and nearly every city I took had a commercial hub with a market and I was able to spin up trade routes of my own in high production core cities.
So if you see Mali but no Malian units, and you're in a mood to conquer or need gold, it think it's best to strike while the iron is hot.
I agree with everyone that the game looks even more fantastic now. The maps are gorgeous, I can actually tell where a hill is with my naked eye.
The turns are significantly faster for me, though initial map creation/loading time is longer.
The patch note that they've made CS/Civs start further apart has not been accurate so far in - my most recent game as Canada started essentially surrounded by three civs each within a stones throw. I wonder if the logic doesn't actually differentiated between Civs and City States when placing.

Couple of notes on turn 97 of my first GS game as Shaka on a TSL Earth map.
1.) They moved Madagascar from it's original location, also don't know if it's just me or Africa as a whole at least seems skinny at the bottom, and I do believe that they may have shrunk the Sahara a little.
2.) Confused on where they chose Phonecia to start on TSL Earth, but then again once they showed that their Capital wasn't Carthage I don't know what I was expecting, and also I'm a little peeved with Mali's Start location there isn't a singe dessert tile within the first ring and it bothers me
3.) The entire game (units, tiles, storms, etc.) Looks beautiful and fresh i love the new warrior design their little makeshift maces are a nice touch, and I'm loving the civ colors and the fact that my units actually have African skin color instead of them being Caucasian 2/3 of the time actually makes the game feel somewhat right.
I was going to try and have my first win be Diplo with Canada, but the rounds of voting are so sparse that I ended up winning via tourism and I only had 6/10 diplo points.
So I finally got on the other side of the mountains to settle a city. Sweden was right there as turns out, who of course attacked me. She was about to take my city when a 1000 year flood came and swept away her horse!
