Guess the Map II: witty sequel titles failed me

countries with a city where there is the headquarters of some UNO agency, dark red being United nations major offices...

UNESCO in Paris
ICAO in Montreal
FAO in Rome
UNWTO in Madrid
IMO in London
International court of Justice in the Hague
UNCCD Germany

to complete the list

Atomic Energy in Vienna
Women Agency in Santo Domingo
UN University in Tokyo
Environment Programme in Nigeria
Gaza-Office in Palestine (yes, I colored it!! ;)

I think that's everything ;)

Well, if you go to http://www.un.org/en/aboutun/index2.shtml , they list under Visit the UN Geneva, Vienna and New York, so I was going with that and that was also kinda my notion, not necessarily the size of the office, but the numbers of different offices. Plus, most countries have missions (=embassies) in New York, Geneva and Vienna, but they don't in Nairobi, right?

And of course, it's Nairobi, not Nigeria. Just proves that you shouldn't create such maps in two minutes out of a quick "this might be fun"... And of course it shows that I still have some preconceptions and I should have checked it as I did with Madrid... I should be ashamed of myself and i think i am really ;)

Don`t worry, I only found Nairobi out when I was looking for what made Vienna special, and just saw that wiki listed those three and Nairobi as major offices.

Let's try with this one...

Let's try with this one...

Aligned with SU (red), Neutral (yellow) aligned with US (blue). Stipy meant leaning towards US or SU, depending.

Places where America, Soviet and France(except France itself) had stationed troops.

Yellow could be neutrals that were fought over (by proxy mostly) whereas the dark grey were neutrals not fought over (ok using neutrals lightly here, as most of the dark greys, if not all would have leaned towards the US), while stripy means change of alignment.

But what is the light gray then?

And Syria and India were way more pro Soviet than pro U.S. during the majority of the Cold War.

It's something to do with the Cold War, obviously, but it seems incomplete in many instances, and wrong in others (when was China allied with the US?).

When Nixon went there. I think more a case of "the enemy of my enemy" than friendship.

What I don't get is they yellow part. I mean Blue looks like US influence, Red like Soviet (since the map is clearly from before 1989) and the majority of yellow is French speaking and belonged to the French Colonial Empire, yet France is not yellow.

You coule make some Republic of vs People's Republic of. But a number of other issues have arisen with respect to such a simple explanation.

Lets not forget a separate colour for southern Africa and Arabia, Cambodia, and some bits of East Africa.
As to the French aspect, a significant number of yellow are formerly British (British Guyana, Zambia, Tanzania, Sudan, Iraq) and Italian (Lybia and Ethiopia). While plenty of French colonies aren't yellow (Indochina, Syria and Lebanon).
