Well copper's the most common metal to make wires of all kinds.

But it is a metal.

Quite an educating thread! :)

So is it coltan (to make tantal for capacitors)?

Contre: I have no idea, though I assume red means no data available?

No, the countries in red do have data available.

Contre map is interesting, a hint might be good. Could it be about age of population?

Madviking's map is about cobalt.

It's... something countries have, had or never had. Red is have. Green is have had or never had.

Next time, please don't post a second map right after one's been posted...

Some kind of power source?

does it have something to do with whale hunting?

No, nothing to do with whaling. But looking back at the map, I can see where you'd gather that.

It does have to do with biology. I know, huge hint that is!

Energy from tidal waves?

It is public acceptance of evolution?

The Danish have no current aristocrats, whereas the Australians do? That's interesting.

Maybe it's something to do with diseases. Rabies?

That was damn quick. Yes. Rabies.

Red countries have rabies. Dark green have never had rabies. Light green countries have had rabies eradicated within their borders.

I'll go with freedom of the press, with dark green as best and dark red as worst.
