Does anyone care to have a punt on the highest GOTM score this month?

Aside from GOTM2, which was accelerated start up, there has been only 1 GOTM > 200 prior to GOTM7: this was Shadowdale's 210 in GOTM6.
Starlifter has apparently scored 392 in GOTM7, so perhaps everybody is improving.

Given the 570 turns, the 50^pnp factor in the GOTM scoring formula will be larger, so I think a GOTM score of 250 is possible even though this is a rocky archipelago. A spaceship finish in about 1000AD could achieve this, and I'm sure some people will land before 1000AD.

My guess: Winner = 240
3 people over 200 (I don't think I'll be among them).

I think there will be 5 or 6 with 200+ points.

I'm going to have a closer look at that 50^PNP factor this month. My "build and grow in the last 100 turns" method that I developed two years ago (long before the GOTMs) seems to be relatively inefficient in GOTMs (GOTM 5 & 6 were done this way). I'd planned to do GOTM 7 that way, too, but being forced into slash and grow methods 200 years early seems to have been rewarded well by the 50^PNP function. Had GOTM 7 terminated in the 1700's (or 1800s) as I often do, it would have likely have scored less than 200.

Speed of finish seems more important that I originally thought, so before I do GOTM 8 this month, I'm going back to the drawing board and examining my own early game starts, which consistently lag many GOTM players every month.

I would not be suprised to see more than 10 scores in excess of 200, though in effect, there is a "penalty" in the function for being at Warlord.

I'm sure some people will land before 1000AD.

LOL, barring something bizzarre... I would expect to see quite a few pre-1000 AD landings! There are 250 game turns until 1000 AD, after all.

And don't bet against a pre-500 AD landing, either!

But then, I have not started GOTM 8 yet, so I'd better not make too many predictions.

I'll say 5000 by 200ad...how much is that?.It could be more.

You should have no sweat landing before 1000ad if you so chose. You have 200 turns till 1ad.Theoretically that is enough to do the whole tech tree.

If you mean launching by 200AD, there will be 222 turns (assuming the largest SS). This will give GOTM = 272.
BTW, I doubt I'm going to go over 150. I haven't started too well.

ok..then my prediction is 272 gotm points.

I'm not getting that but I think you will need at least that. The 50 pnp will be a bigger factor than civ score I think.

It's certainly tailor made for someone like Shadowdale or yourself with a very efficient early start.

Get in there and kick some serious AI butt. Get into Republic, grow a few cities, get into Democracy, pump up, and get the tech tree done, then take some time and grow like mad to incrase your score. Shoot for 5 digits this month. And stick a city anywhere it will fit! If you want to squeeze some more points out, transform some terrain to grassland. But this may be hampered by the 50^PNP function, so watch out.

Of course, realize I have not started GOTM 8 (so talk is cheap, LOL) and I'm not in the spoiler thread yet. I'm still analyzing the play styles of some of our resident early start experts. Of course, if I discover Early Start Nirvana, I'll post it for ya'll to try in GOTM 9!

You might find the terrain and layout not as conducive to early growth and production as GOTM7.
I'm currently in 960AD with a GOTM of 56. I might mange > 150, but my poor start has already done the damage. Judging by the spoiler thread, over 250 for a win is definitely a possibility.
