History Background: His origin is unknown, some source say he has a royal origins somewhere around the Dahomey kingdom, nowadays the Republic of Benin. Other sources will claim he has born in the Haiti island as church's slave.
During the war of the 1st coalition he was fighting in the Spanish side against the french troops, he accepted change side if the France abolish the Slavery in Haiti. France accepted and slavery was abolish in Fructidor 12, of the 0th year of French Revolution. <1793>
Fighting for the Republic Française, he defeat British troops from Jamaica and also conquer the other half of Hispaniola island and abolish the slavery there in Nivôse 14, year VIII.
Around 1802 he accumulated so much power in his handy, as proclaimed him vice-roy of Haiti 4-life! Napoleon send his brother in law to capture Toussaint and restore the slavery in French Caribbean, Le Clerc catch him successfully. L'Overture died in prision in Germin 18, year X.
But the 11 years of abolishment of slavery can't be undone as Napoleon wish, and some of Haitian's generals as Jean-Jacques Dessalines, Henri Christophe and Alexandre Pétion defeat LeClerc's troops. The last battle was around the city of Cap-Haitïen in Brumair 28, year XI. But they wait until the Réveillon of 1804 to officially proclame the independence of Haiti.
After the Independence, Jean-Jacques Dessalines proclames him self Emperor in 1805 but was murdered in the next year, every one hate him after the White Genocide of 1804.
The Haiti was shared in a Black Monarchy in the north ruled by Henri Christophe and a Mulato Republic in south ruled by presidency for life of Alexandre Pétion, both can be good alternative leaders for Haiti Civilization, but I think Toussaint have more appeal.

I don't like that much the Mawon idea, because Haitian's troops use a so fancy uniform, I believe will be coller some unit as:
In CIV 5 Mood they also suggested a Voodo Priest Unique Unit, with Healer promotion. The Haiti is really present in Haitian life and also can be a good choice.
