I've played a couple of FfH games and I'm hooked. The lore is great and the new features are a lot of fun. Trouble is the AI doesn't seem to know what to do with all these features... it treats the game just like standard CIV with the additional handicap that it can no longer go for its favorite victory: space. If you play on an Erebus map it's even worse because the AI can't really go for its second favorite victory: conquest/domination. All the mountain chains and watery passages really throw it for a loop. Is there any way to change the CIV AI or are we stuck with opponents that only know to mass troops and await defeat?

Playing higher levels helps. Or playing a more relaxed style.

Edit: Playing with "AI no building requirements" and the new "AI no minimum levels" helps too.

the AI is the last thing the team is going to focus on: since the mod is still in development and subject to changes, rewriting AI before it's done could be a waste of time. once all is in place , expect the AI to become a lot better at handling all the new toys ;)

We are working on. It isn't a simple switch of the AI doesnt work or the AI does work. There have been hundreds of hours spent on the FfH AI, and it is a ton better than it was in older versions. It is effective at some things, it is definitly not just the base Civ4 AI.

Sometimes thats hard to see for new players because you ignore the things its doing well, and obviously there is still plenty of room to grow. Every version has improvements and a massive improvement was made in 0.33 with the new strategy hash.

It will never be as good as a human, I fear that it probably wont ever be as good at playing FfH as the base Civ4 AI is at playing Civ4. What makes FfH great, the variety, also makes it hard for the AI.

But we continue to work on it, so expect it to get better. My priority list reads: OOS, AI, Documentation, Scenarios.

Is anyone else sadistically pleased to see that Kael did not include "real life" on his priority list? :D

that priority list is great. I was pretty afraid that the scenarios would be first, I'm really happy to know they will be the last thing to be added to the game as they are just a nice added perk imho, I prefer the epic game with random map ;)

Life is overrated. However, I prefer premade maps, just for the fact that they make more sense to me.
