The Hanging Gardens boosts all my cities on that continent by 1 pop point and adds one Healthy point. But does that apply only to cities already built, or does it also apply to future cities?
For example, I'm on a fairly large continent but I'm keeping small (five cities) until I get Code of Laws. Since I"m Industrious and have stone, Hanging Gardens is tempting, but I don't know if it'll be worth it for just five cities. After Code of Laws, I can expand to 10-12 cities, and it would definitely be worth it in that case IF the effect of the HG applies to those future cities too. Anyone know for sure?

nope its not. However its still only 120 hammers for 150 hammers worth of whipping. I would sugest getting out some more cities to imeadiatly benefit from it though. 5 cities arent realy very good for HG.

In addition, I would suggest watching the top 5 cities & trade resources screen. If you notice a particular leader has stone, be weary that they might steal this engineer pop'n wonder from you. More cities the better, but I'd rather build it and have the gp points, rather than loose it all together. imho.

On the other hand, it typically takes the AI a while to build wonders which require some other structure in the city (here, the aqueduct). Unless you are actively trying to build an engineer-producing GP farm, you might consider waiting around the next few games to see how long it takes the AI to do it.

The population bonus is a one-time deal, you only get it in your existing cities. Therefore it's good to rush a bunch of settlers & found all the cities you want before building it.

The health bonus applies to all cities, present and future. You only lose it if you lose the city it's built in.

I'd go for the HGs, while building a settler. Try to have as many cities as possible in due time, but don't delay the wonder (level dependant of course, but it's really frustrating to miss it just because you delayed it ;))

In multiplayer team games, it's a +1 population boast to every city of the whole team. That usually means 20 extra whipped maceman in your attack force.

i really like to have the hanging gardens for the permanent health bonus. it's a wonder that i'd rather capture than build in most cases, which is quite an odd attitude for me. HG benefits every city, not just "every city on this continent" which is terrific, and a definite positive in the "just as good if captured and not planned in my specific city" category. and sometimes i just don't want to deal with that +1 pop all at once. other times i do want the free bodies, they can be real handy. but always my main goal is to get the freebie health to just always be there, it's a very nice bonus to have.

then there are OCC games, where i go all out to build it, since health is everything, more than everything. and in a competition to see who could get a diplomatic win the earliest, i built it ASAP in the same city with the pyramids, for the engineer points. that city's sole purpose in life was to be sure i'd have an engineer to partly build the UN when i finally got to mass media (it of course also had a forge). but those are oddball cases. i have at least one oddball case for just about every situation ;).
