Happiness as odd numbers

I don't like the happiness being all these weird fractions. Also, it seems the numbers are very inflated from vanilla.

In vanilla, it was a challenge to manage my happiness. Now it is easy in that I don't have to worry about it, but I WANT to worry about it. On the other hand, I want to also be able to do something about it, and with the odd fractions (0.8 per pop, -5% from liberty finisher, -20% from Gandhi, etc.) I can never predict what my unhappiness will be. Especially because I have no idea how the game chooses to round those fractions.

Can we find a way to revert these back to relatively whole numbers? I find 1/2s are fine, just not things like 0.56

Other people have huge problems with happiness management in VEM, especially when conquering (cities loose less population).

Even without conquering much, you either have to build a lot of wonders or happiness buildings to stay positive when expanding in my recent experience.

Small peaceful empires are meant to have surplus happiness for golden ages, it's their intended edge.

What's your preferred difficulty, BTW?

Then I'm happy about small peaceful empire getting happiness golden ages. The less cities they have, the less use they get out of them though lol

I WANT to have to manage my happiness. If I expand, I should have to manage it. You say people do have to, good. I haven't experienced it yet, because I just can't stand the 0.8 per pop. I can't predict my happiness as easily. And conquering is even more confusing to me in that regard.

EDIT: Depends, I don't like the AI getting advantages, but on the other hand I steamroll if they don't. Emperor is just about right, but I hate that they start with so much. They always have a 2nd city by the time I meet them!

The numbers are rounded for the final empire-wide net happiness. Ratios other than 1:1 exist in vanilla:

4:c5angry: per 3:c5citizen: in :c5occupied: occupied cities.
2:c5angry: per 5:c5citizen: specialists (with Universal Suffrage).
etc...

Unless we give occupied cities the same happiness as normal cities, and remove bonuses like Suffrage, the Liberty finisher, and Forbidden Palace, non-1:1 ratios are unavoidable.

I certainly have huge problems expanding on King/Epic unless I'm sitting on at least 3 luxury resources. Most of the time though, I find I have 3 of the same luxury resource and one other I can get access to, and then the nearest city states also only have the same damned resource I already have! I have to rush to construction to build colosseums, and then rush to get theatres too as my cities grow.
