What was the hardest game for you to beat? My hardest game was the origional C&C Red Alert. There were so many hard levels, and the final levels it took me more than 6 hours of constant playing.

Deus Ex, man that was deadly.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV - the hard level of difficulty, as Liu Bei in the Red Cliff scenario. Though my memory is a bit hazy, vaguely remembered that the situation is impossible with both Cao Cao's and Sun Quan's infinite forces keep coming fr north and south. And I'm stucked in lousy undeveloped Xinye, with few troops and many officers.

Or maybe I'm doing it all wrong...

Arkanoid. Or Contra. :p

Seriously, I think the older console games used to be much tougher. There was no such thing as 'saving,' and you really had to get a lot of points to get an 'extra life.'

Feud by Bulldog on the Amstrad.

More modern? Sudden Strike: Forever missions :o

I second Deus Ex.

And I never did beat it :( Got bored when I couldnt figure out what to do in China Town.

Deus Ex was pretty easy.

I ran it on hardest using pistols and rifles as prioritisation and had a hard job versus that Guther fellow. I talked to my brother who prioritised the GEP gun and on each boss I had difficulty with he calmly replied that "I GEPed it, easy." ;)

You had problems with Gunther, ever heard of the phrase 'Laputan Machine' ;)

An old game called Ghouls & Ghosts, the japanese version (might have been called something similar over there).
Ridiculously hard.

Some console shoot-them-up.
There is no way they could have actually be made for human being. No. Impossible.

I haven't played all too many games, but I remember not being able to beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega GameGear. I could never get all the Chaos Emeralds, so I couldn't get to the last level. :(

Black and White I can't get past the 3rd or 4th island
arghh.

Well I was determined to keep going in Tetris until all the bricks had fallen but I never reached the end.

3D Pong... Another hugely difficult game but then it depends which version you play.

Ninja Gaiden was tough (though I hear NG3 was harder). There's no doubt older games are tougher, and for good reason. As mentioned, few had a save feature (Zelda was the first to have that, I think). Also, since one couldn't exactly keep people interested with sprawling worlds or life-like graphics, challenge often had to be the selling point.

I remember Ghouls and Ghost and Contra being very hard....I believe in both of them you could not change the direction of your jump in mid air. I never did beat G&G but did beat Contra eventually, even with out the cheat.
Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, B, A, Select, Start! +20 men I believe. Either that or unlimited.
