Hardest/least favorite Civilization to play as?

Use the slinger just like you would a normal archer, don't focus on it. I find the best results with the Inca are obtained when I go for 4-6 gigantic production cities (preferably next to Mountains for observatories).

The combination of growth & production given by hilly terrain and the terrace farms can get somewhat unreal.

On the other hand, I never seem to have much success with the Aztecs...

Thank you for the advice. I'm going to try another game with the Inca while bearing your insights in mind. As a non-purist I am not above tweaking things in Advanced setup and/or re-rolling to get an ideal start in accordance with your post.

Hah, excellent. And I just started a game with the Aztecs based upon your recommendation!

Probably my least favorite so far is England. +2 naval movement? Whoop-de-doo. I also tend not to build a lot of archery units, and Ship of the Lines go out of style pretty quick in my games. Also, England's achievement looks pretty annoying to get. Most games I only kill a handful of enemy naval units, let alone 357. I would probably have to set up camp around a coastal barbarian village hoping for spawns.

On a Continents/Archipelago/etc. map, England is fantastic. Get those promotions for your SoL's and you can own the seas with beastly Destroyers. In my last game with them I had a fleet of 12-movement Destroyers (UA + Naval Tradition + captured Great Lighthouse) with Re-Supply, Logistics and Range..maybe you don't need a great navy, but sure does help a lot (on certain maps).

England should be played on a water map, as should Ottomans

imo the Ottomans should be played on a land-heavy map that can be overrun by Jannisaries.

as for my pick, I'm not crazy about the Greeks. Two UU's that replace units I usually tech right past (I guess Horsemen/Comp Cavs are good, but Phalanxes/Spearmen are last resorts). I also typically don't lean too heavily on City-States, so the UA doesn't blow me away either.

INca are my favourite so far. I downloaded the DLC two weeks ago and I started a Deity game with them, expecting to be completely trashed by turn 120 only to be overwhelmed by how awesome their UA and finding I was winning. Free hill movement is just awesome for warring at that difficulty level - it gives a real edge against a carpet of AI. The free roads and railroads give a big kick to the ecoonmy. Terrace farms allows growth and produciton. I like them so much because I wasn't expecting anything good from them.

The game got trashed by the last patch :(
