Has anyone had an experience with addiction?

I started smoking weed with some of the older middle schooler kids (7th, 8th). As much as I am against drug propaganda, I'll be the first to admit that weed is a gateway drug.

What does that mean? Is baseball a gateway sport because some people play it before other sports? Pot is "a gateway drug"? I used alcohol and tobacco before pot, are they gateway drugs too? Of course its propaganda, if it wasn't it would mean something relevant and it doesn't. By definition any drug becomes "a gateway drug" if its 1 person's first experience with drugs.

Breastmilk is a gateway drug!

Let me discuss that. You've got it the wrong way around. The reason why you want to work hard in high school, get a great college and get a degree/diploma/whatever from that great place, is precisely because it will give you the freedom to do what you love. Basically having a good academical record will allow you easier access to nice jobs, and thus provide you with the financial security you need to pursue your other interests at various points in your life.

Much easier to start your permaculture farm when you've put a bit of money away doing a decent job, and knowing that, if it fails, your diploma will be a good help to get a job back.

I'm not saying that getting a good diploma will land you the job of your dreams. I'm saying that it will give you more freedom, flexibility and power than dropping out of school and then getting stuck bagging groceries for crappy money because nobody hires high-school dropouts.
Yes, of course in the long run I have a more freedom if I work hard in highschool and stay in society than if I stay in society and don't work hard now, but I have as close to complete freedom if I abandon society altogether.

I've long had a ridiculously mild psychological addiction to Coke (the soft drink) and caffeine. I know you can be physically addicted to caffeine (and hence somewhat to Coke, too), but I'm certain that that's not the case with me.

The first step in your path to freedom from drugs is the acceptance that you have a problem... and a physical addiction.

I can't say that I've ever had a true addiction to anything. I used to smoke cigarettes, but I don't think that I ever got truly addicted to it. I used to drink a lot of Iced Tea, but I got off of that, and most other caffeine drinks. I used to smoke pot, but I was certainly never addicted to that.

the cigs were tough to stop, not only the nicotine but I had to use lollipops to simulate the hand mouth action. :( Thats pretty bad, and I've used just about every drug available back in my youth, except heroin. Never was too keen on poking needles in my arms and the "high" looked more like a real downer, I'd see people use the stuff and just slump  I like to be up, active, play foosball on speed with some of the greatest players in the world, yeah... Good times...
