I see in the civ iv ini file that there are two options ...

PHP:
; Number of turns to autorun before exit (0 for no limit)
AutorunTurnLimit = 0

; Set App on Auto-Run
Autorun = 0

I am assuming that this will run the game with no human input for the number of turns specified. Has anyone actually tried this?

I haven't tried that, but I have used the option of not hitting the red button at the end of the turn. Sometimes it is nice because it automatically goes to the next turn, but if you have no moves and decide that you want to change or look at something, you can't. :sad: You basically have to wait for it to start and end every turn until it has to ask you what to do.

I tried it, both with and without the cheat code and it didn't do anything. I was hoping that I could run 500 turns over night and see what mess I was in in the morning.

You can do that using the debug console. Something like Game.AI_Autoplay(<number of turns>)... I'm not certain that's exactly right, but something like that.

I just started a new game and forgot to reset my ini values ... it wouldn't let me play. I had it set to auto play for 10 turns but it just keep on going. Hmm - doesn't seem to work that well.

i haven't seen the ini-entries about that.
i use allways the "usual" way:

at first: your civ.ini:
- change cheat = chipotle
- change autosaves = 0 (it can take very long with autosaves enabled, so i recommend to disable it)

second: start a new game, open the consol (on german keyboard it's on "ö", don't remember where it's on other languages keyboards but i think it was "^" on the english one.... anywhere here has to be a thread about it.) and type: game.aiplay xxx

your civ will disappear and the whole game runs without your civ. when the autorun is completed you start as a lion or something on the ice :D
to investigate the world you can either enter worldbuilder or hit STRG+Z to unveil the whole map.
