So I am in a mpp with China and we were at war with Babylon. So Egypt joined forces with Babylon against China. So I was told my allies (The Chinese ) we under attack by Egypt. So I saw it my duty to nuke Thebes. Well maybe I should have scouted the area before launching that ICBM. I killed the Chinese army who was outside the city.:wallbash: now Mao isn't speaking to me. Oh well live and learn I guess.

 Can't say I've ever done that, but I can see it happening. Probably the #1 reason I haven't had it happen is that I almost never use nukes. Can't say I blame Mao for not speaking with you after that, though...

boy, that escalated quickly

"Sir, we've been besieging this city for almost 100 years now. There has no man come in or out of those city walls in my lifetime and we've been catapulting in rotting cow carcasses for decades. Did you know we even started to shoot the birds that tried to come in or out of that city? Shall we prepare to open the gates and take the city by force? Those people inside there must be down and WHAT THE HELL IS THAT FALLING FROM THE SKY!!"

Imagine that happening in a real war.

When you bring nukes to the playground it can always happen that some civs declare on you :yup:

That's how I wrecked my very first game on Immortal in Civ4. Which is, incidentally, the only time I've ever used nukes in a serious game in the civ series.

That reminds me of a Civ4 game I currently have that's on hiatus. I was playing as England, approaching winning, and was starting to get invaded left and right - I believe the Better AI Mod was in effect, and it showed. I also rarely use nukes in a time when it makes a difference in who wins the war, but that was an exception. But in that case, the situation was that the enemy had landed overwhelming numbers in Scotland, and the defence was hopeless. So, I nuked myself! This proved to be a good idea. The damage to my troops and theirs was proportional, but I was able to reinforce with troops from northern England, and thus save the city. Rather unfortunate for my troops on the front line and residents of my city, though.

I can't say I've ever nuked someone in a serious game in Civ3. But I have few games that are still highly competitive then - the game that comes to mind was an Emperor one that went into the Late Industrial Age, but I was being slowly destroyed by enemy bombers well before nukes.

I rarely use nukes myself, but once in a game I accidentally nuked myself (mouse blunder). I decided to play it out to see how the AI would react, rather than to back up, but I don't recall what came of it. I have a previous comment about it buried somewhere here.

Doesn't it give you a warning like

This will cause a war with the Chinese people

You actually have a point. It should.

I'm curious now for the answer.

I have played around with nukes just a little bit, trying them out to see how they worked, in a couple of custom scenarios. Problem is once you use them on someone, they do tend to use them back at you. Normally, I restrict who can get them.

Speaking of the devil, is that what the Manhattan Project does? Restrict the use of nukes? It says it allows the construction of nuclear weapons by all civs. So before it, who can build nukes?

Once the Manhattan Project is built, everyone can build nukes who has access to Uranium and Aluminum, unless you set the Tactical Nuke and the ICBM to be built by only a limited number of nations. In the WW2 Pacific scenario, the Manhattan Project allows everyone to build the A-Bomb.

I've noticed nobody has answer'd Immortal777's question, which I'm a bit curious by the way.

The whole plot of this incident should be avoided.

Hmm, I might test this in the WW2 scenario that I am playing. I have the A-Bomb with a long-range, so bombing China would be easy. I am not sure how a locked alliance handles this.
