Hatty - Monarch Cookbook Mark II (IC concurrent)

I do wonder if another round is really worth it here. I suspect this game could be over by 1450-1500ad if you take a military approach. Perhaps 1400ad should be made a reporting round for the Monarch Cookbook? Voting to play 20 or so turns won't teach you much.

Any thoughts?

I would wait first for another reports. Dont forget Cripp is really experienced player which probably should have played IC version with all of you.

Perhaps he could of learned more from the IC. Really a game like this should be for players on prince wanting to jump to monarch. This is why some are encouraged to shadow at a level if they are capable of beating monarch level. This is perhaps why the first round was so strong. I do accept there are some people here who are genuinely trying to make the jump to monarch. The learning level really does decrease if you take a too strong save early on. There is an argument to have different game for the IC and MC cookbook.

I will cite from NC Justinian game, I think there is some good info. This is the first part

I rushed XXX as discussed before, expanded, teched, won liberalism race 1k AD (you actually could be there sooner this game I hope!). Getting Nationalism out of lib if I remember correctly.
Then I got this advice:

If you do want to go Cavs here are a few things I would recommend:

I see you are in Buddhism but only 3 citys have the religion. Spread it around for running Theocracy. - Adjust to any religion you see fit.

Focus all your EPs on your first target. Make sure courthouses are up so you are producing EPs. Pick one city and have it spam nothing but spy's. I would recommend 16 or 20. I try to keep 4 together because some are going to get caught. 4 may be overkill but you dont want your army showing up to a city with no way of lowering defenses. It will slow you down.

Get stables up in any city that will be building Cuirassiers and Cavs. Which should be pretty much all of them.

Build the Taj if you can get it because a GA will be very good here. I would go into Theocracy. Vassalage or Buro is up to you. I would go Caste to help out your newly converted GP farm run scientists/merchants, and the workshop bonus. But if you are planning on whipping your army, obviously slavery. You should be to economics by the time the Taj is done for Free Market.

Build a small army of defenders that can travel behind your Cavs for defense in captured cities. Cavs are wasted if they are sitting in citys for garrison.

Try to get to Economics first for the Great Merchant and send him on a trade mission. After that beeline gunpowder, then MT and start pumping out Cuirassiers. Beeline rifles. Use your trade mission gold to upgrade all Cuirassiers to Cavs. If you dont get the economics GM try to pop one in your GP farm. After rifling contining building Cavs until you have 20 or so, depending on your targets strengh, then you are ready to attack. Keep building more for reinforcements.

If you get there fast enough you could probably run over the world. Some things will start to slow you down. The AI getting gunpowder to some extent though Cavs should still run them over for the most part. AI getting security bureau's will mean more spies getting caught. And rifles in large numbers can stop you.

So after you tech rifles beeline flight for fighters and radio for bombers. Cavs with a good size airforce should finish off anyone standing.

That's one way to do it.

From my save the plan was paper->edu->lib, whip unis. There will be some problem with GSs to bulb edu since I didnt build good GP farm.

well I hope this isnt spoilerish, since it's mostly citation from completely other game. BTW in that NC game I did everything the man adviced me and owned my owned continent around 1555AD. There was then the other so the conquest victory came 2 centuries later. We dont have problems with logistics here.

It was one of my best rounds I ever did though :-).

Or you can just nuke everyone to hell. Thats fun too!!!:D:D Its even better when they don't have uranium to nuke you back!

I do wonder if another round is really worth it here. I think all saves could just play to a finish. Up to lymond as his thread.

Spoiler :
Playing on from Cripps save took me 6 turns to win. 1430ad win. I really think cannons have slowed down your advance on this game. I would of simply played it out.
Spoiler :
I thought that too, probably could've ended a lot earlier just spamming Cuirs

I'll take a go at the IC next time. I'm still trying to hone my monarch skills which I'm just about there. Thanks for the encouragement. First round can decide the outcome of the game, I have figured that out.

That helps. Thank you. I'll have to take a look at the IC game too.

I could replay (with a few changes to speed things up) and post a detailed log.
Log is too long to post.

Only if you'd like to. Thanks.

It is a shame more people have not tried to play this save. I do think a pre 1400ad win is possible. :)

Well, doesn't appear to be many takers this round. With that said, I guess I have to announce the winner as:

GUMBOLT!!!!

Nah...just kidding. Nice early victory though.

Anyway, feel free to finish out the round and/or game and report or report if you've already finished. It will still be interesting see how folks play this out and compare results. Looking forward to the next cookbook. Oh..and don't forget to check out the IC results.

By the way, another great way to learn or just have fun is trying out the CFC Games of the Month (GOTM/WOTM/BOTM). The GOTM Staff puts out games monthly and they are pretty nifty mapmakers. Spoiler threads run during and after completion of the games and you will get to compare your game to some extremely legendary CIV players. GOTM players are ranked as well. Check it out at this link:

GOTM

I'll have my round up later today, i was just taking a break from civ for a few days and getting annoyed with a game i started yesterday (Isolated as elizabeth with genghis khan,i rushed him, and now when i meet the other AI's they're at least half an age ahead in tech.If its still annoying me, i might post it on the fourms). I might just finish my MC game instead of posting untill 1400AD , if thats ok.

Do post that game. Isolated starts need a different approach.

My highest score so far! Beelining MT and mass producing Cuirassiers is a lot of fun and got me a quicker win this time!

I find it fascinating that most playes here seem to automatically go for a domination/conquest victory. Also I find it funny if I read "this game will be over by 1400AD". It most certainly won't be if you decide to play on peacefully.

I tried to do that, but guess I neglected my military too far. Got DoWed by JC and at that point just didn't want to play on. May will retry this if I find some time.

Its because of Cathy and JC that most people are going to go for Military wins,
Spoiler :
JC gave me alot of trouble in NC Joao, he got 22% land mass but i was able to take him down eventually.

I'm not sure about which victory i'll go for maybe UN, i don't have the patience to play this for more than 4 hours(total game time).
