It seems months since the last patch, and no news about a forthcomming one.

So has CIV4 been hung out to dry?

This isn't WoW you know....how many patches do you expect?

I think they should release one more patch at least, to fix some things. Most of those are already fixed in an unofficial patch, but official and unofficial are two different things.

It's the second expansion pack. There shouldn't be any patches needed.

But thanks to a recent sloppy/lazy tendancy from Firaxis, multiple patches are required to fix the damn thing.

I have been kind of wondering the same thing. Though the Unofficial patch does fix the issues. It is just that Unofficial. Firaxis / Sid Meier's does make great games. I think everyone here will agree with that.

Altho, When I read on MMORPG.com that Firaxis /Sid Meier's is planning on making a MMO, it makes me really wonder if they are up to the task. MMo's are another ball park.

Personally I am fine with the Unofficial patch. The MMo world on the other hand is very cruel and tears companies apart who do not realize the repercussions of their actions or rather in-actions.

Last year was a brutally rough year for several Developers in the MMO market. Simple fact is those companies deserved what they got. They chased the almighty dollar rather than focusing on a stable and enjoyable product.

I would hate to see someone like Firaxis be shot down the tubes or have their reputation tarnished by lack of support in a MMo venture if they choose to make one in the near future.

Does Firaxis set the policies for patch releases and release dates, or Take2?

I don't think this one should be blamed on Firaxis... I don't have complaints for Firaxis, I can't stand Take2 though.

There does need to be a new patch to fix everything (officially) that is still broken. It wouldn't take too long; all the code is already written.

Right now, in the "official" release, there are still some big bugs...spies forced out of your opp's borders when you declare war on them, and some other oddities. (See Bhruic's list). Certainly a big step up from 3.03, which was a step backwards... but there are still things that were broken in the release and should be fixed, especially considering espionage is now a major facet of the game.

If Warcraft worked just fine except Flying Machines couldn't fly into enemy territory, the game would be patched...

Take2, release a patch for crying out loud!!!

Some bugs are understandable, and some of the ones are obscure enough that play testing wouldn't have necessarily uncovered them in a timely manner.

However, some of the ones they have simply aren't excusable. Your spies getting kicked out of enemy territory upon a declaration of war simply isn't. It seems like playing through two or three games would have revealed that issue, and it would be relatively straightforward to fix-- look at how fast Bhuric was over that . .. .. .. .. One can only conclude that the issue is sloppiness.

Presumably, once CivRev is out the door, they'll make an official BTS patch, then on to Civ5.

I think Bts is the best expansion pack ever, for any game. i wouldn't say no to another one, but to be honest i don't really care. i'd much rather see a civ 5 with a new graphic engine. and they could enable a bit more violence, nothing much jsut a little blood here and there for the fun of it.

Folks should stop being afraid to use the Bhruic patch... it solves pretty much anything that needs to be solved.

There's also plenty of excellent mods out there that Firaxis couldn't touch in quality for shizzy.

Frankly, if Firaxis never did another thing for Civ4 ever again (and I think the odds of that are actually fairly high), it wouldn't bother me the least... Firaxis has done enough for this game... the modding community has picked up and ran with it.

Alexman did post a while back (must be at least a month ago) that there would be another patch at some point, but speedy and competant patching has really not been Firaxis' strong point recently.

Bhruic's unofficial patch fixes just about everthing that needs to be fixed. It's not like it was with Solver's patch when there were still a lot of problems with "waiting for civs" infinite loops in the late game. If Bhruic's patch was just made official, it would probably be adequate.

Wolf-- That's fine for us. But Civ4 has sold about 1.5 million copies (possibly more; too lazy to do in-depth research, and wiki says 1.5 million). If just 10% of those bought BTS, that's 150,000 copies (which is probably underestimating BTS's sales). The people who read CFC are maybe 10% of that, and maybe a slim majority of those are comfortable/technically savvy enough to install the patch themselves.

In essence, then, the BTS experience is hopelessly buggy for at least 90% of players. That simply isn't good enough.

Firaxis is working in the patch..... they have been asking to some map script makers ( like the Terra2 one ) if they can use them in next patch , so I assume that they are working in it  ....

That would be accurate if the second expansion didn't add any fundamentally new content. On the other hand, the second expansion did.

Completely true, only a small portion of people who play probably know about Bhuric's patch.

I think that's why many are suggesting Firaxis just make that the official patch, (with Bhuric's permission) put that on their website and their automated updating system so that everyone can have access to it.

I would like to see some progress on BtS for the Mac...

after the way the people here acted preceding the 3.13 patch, firaxis shouldnt tell anyone anything.
