We have stop putting up our (fake) Christmas tree for many years now. We found that it was just pointless having it up for only a few days in a year, with all the effort being put into it. Another reason is that we do not have room any more.
24th of December, between afternoon coffee and church. Me, my brother and my sister will put it up in my parent´s house- really kitschy with lots of lametta and sweets wrapped up in colored foil. Either blue-white or gold-red (my favourite).
Christmas eve, maybe the night before that.
And I'd ever have only real trees, they smell gorgeous.
I don't believe in plastic flowers or plastic trees.
Pressure from commercialist/house proudist fiancée forced my to help drag out the artificial trees again.
Its the first proper Xmas in our house, as we bought it a year ago and have spent the last twelve months doing it up. My other half is fastidious in all house matters and she wanted one tree up in the hall and one up in the living room. We each put up our trees, "they must be themed, co-ordinated and pretty" said she.
After half an hour or so we had both finished. Hers, a simple silver beaded/borbled affair with white lights. A lacy white fairy adorned the top of the tree.
She was a tad upset with mine. Any old beads and tinsel was thrown all over it, borbels of various age and condition (some held up with orange "billy band" string). Multi coloured lights - two sets flashing in a variety of random manners. A top the tree was an old spitting image Maggie Thatcher head (ex dog toy). We had an interesting *cough-ouch-cough*discussion on the merits of tack, taste and "is it art?" which resulted in Maggie being removed.
