hey guys, this is my first time posting on here, although I read the articles a lot. I play the most recent update for Beyond the Sword

anyways, I play on noble, and have a solid grasp on most of the game concepts. At least I think i do.

I am having problems winning on noble, and keeping up with tech . I usually run a cottage economy only because I haven't found clear instructions on how to run SE.

I feel like I get stifled around the 1500 or 1600s is when i start my decline.

any advice would be much appreciated on how to better my game.

also a side note, i usually build 4 to 5 cities and conquer the rest, while the computer builds like 12 cities and conquers more, yet they still out tech me. an example....last game I had a GP farm with all merchants and was settling great merchents there too. My tech slider was at 90% the whole game and I was still making like 60g a turn and had thousands in the bank, yet they will double or (in the case of the dutch) triple my landmass. How do they keep up with tech, wouldn't their maintenance stifle their economy like it does mine? somehow they were still able to build up an army as well.

I feel like i'm missing something important...

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure what the problem except that perhaps you ar eexpanding too slow. I am assuming you go to war often enough based on what you said. I wil usually build 4-5 cities myself, then decide where to go. Often I will block off an AI with cities, then more leasurely settle fillin cities. I'll go conquering if I need to but will peacefully expand if the situation arises. Thousands in teh bank with a surplus of 60 gold means to me your a bit miserly. Overexpansion is a nono but underexpansion (which you sound like your doing) can be just as bad and more difficult to recover.

There are several SE instructions I believe. The RPC MONTY game I played was strict SE but that was extreme, I usually play a hybrid. If you try a SE I suggest getting the pyramids as they make it easier although I know some here will disagree about the necesity. Get writing early, build libraries, get excess food in as many cities as possible, and run scientist specialists. This allows you to run the science slider down to 50-60% allowing you to pay for you civilizations expansion.

But the best thing is to post a game and some screenshots.

Welcome to CFC! :)

You probably are, and it's probably the thing that you haven't mentioned in your post (since you don't know what you're looking for :D ). Posting a savegame or at the very least some screenshots will help the rest of us in helping you.

What does SE stand for? I looked in the list of commonly used acronyms at the War Academy but it was not there. ;)

Thanks

"Specialist Economy." That is, relying on Specialists to move forward your economy and technological advancement.

Thanks for the quick reply! :)

here I am again, I just successfully dominated the AI on Noble for the first time. My Economy just fell into place. As vikings, I destroyed Saladin early, got Machinery and Civil Service just in time to build a massive ground shaking trebuchet and berserker army to take my half of the continent and capitulate bismarck, by the time Catherine became a vassal I was so far ahead in tech so I had all the late game wonders, and a massive army so I finished my spaceship invaded japan overseas and won a diplomatic victory before my ship even reach AC.

Best game I have played I think, and apparently I didn't miss anything here.
all this thanks to all of you and you information so thanks to everyone for helping me finally win.
