Ankara is turning out to be a wonderful multi-purpose city. Once it grows to size seven, it can reach 20 hammers per turn. And that's great, because once the city had a garrison of four axes, I switched it over to wealth and the effect was marvelous. 90% science with 4 gpt surplus, boosting our research nicely. Right now the city should build a couple of spearmen, because Qin has HBR and ponies (though not hooked up).
Hmm, <cancel open borders agreement>. That's
our jungle, thank you very much. And, as always with the AI, being thwarted leads to, erm, interesting decisions.
After that, I opened borders with China again, so keep watching the south.
After alphabet came in, I researched hunting to enable spearmen. CoL is nine turns away, although at a defict. Augustus switched to HR, so we may want to research mediation and priesthood to be able to trade for monarchy. Trading for such low-cost techs is like dropping soap. It'd take five turns and would probably shave a turn off of CoL.
Also on diplomacy, I canceled the cows-for-pigs deal with Augustus and sold him the bacon for gems instead. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'd rather take the shinies.
We have a settler en route to the western city site in the jungle. Istanbul should now grow to size eight while working on a trireme and then hire two scientists and train another settler.
Achmed-wuz-here city is now building a hammam. I think a library next would be good, as the city has enough food to support a couple of specialists. We could go caste system, but I think that whipping libraries and markets is better.
I've came up with a general vision on our economy. We should use Ankara and the northern cities as support by building research/wealth and running specialists where feasible. Istanbul and the two yet-to-be-founded jungle cities should be cottaged up.
Also, we shouldn't DoW anyone before janissaries. That way they'll have the longest lifetime. We can then build a fleet of galleys while crushing Qin and then go and stake our claim overseas, preferably on Monty's hide.
