HC-03: The Ottomanation

Any Ideas on what wonders to build?

Oracle could give us a nice tech, like MC. Stonehenge in the meantime means if we lose it it just gives us gold which will help with the expansion. Then just use monuments.

EDIT: all riiiiight, moving along, Pigswill is up. Good Luck!

Hackapell: on deck

Slobberinbear: just played

pigswill: UP NOW

Hey c'mon, gimme a break! I mean, Da Bear's report was, like, on the bottom of the page and the last roster was halfway down. You really can't expect me to surpass the average attention span of a tube-goer. :mischief:

Better that pigswill grabs the save, since I aren't able to right now.

Got it. Had a look. Istanbul focus on worker/settler once grows to happy (lots of turns to get rid of whip misery); Ankara and Edirne build a few axes. Probably settle in the jungle next.

Will play tomorrow.

Played 15 up to 100bc.

295bc Traded pigs to Gus for cows (his idea).
265bc Edirne whips hammam for 2 pop, working food to regrow.
235bc Oracle bidl (Tokugawa).
190bc Currency>Alphabet.
130bc Confucianism fidl (Cologne).

7 turns from alphabet. No-one has discovered it yet.

Built 4 axes, disbanded 4 warriors, built two workers but no settlers. Istanbul building settler at the moment.

Boat continued exploring round north, haven't found Monte but found Tokugawa.

Workers have been busy mining or connecting resources. Iron is now available. Cities have grown a bit. Borders are popping.

Diplomaticaly Jules and Fred are pals, Monte and Tok are pals, Jules/Fred and Monte/Tok are enemies. We remain neutral as does Qin.

No wonders in progress.

that's weird: weren't we shooting for Col? :crazyeye:
Well, I guess that can only mean we use the GS for philo research.
Any priority to which city I should settle? And why didn't qin build the oracle if he researched Mono?!?! Stoopid AI :crazyeye:
Anyway, got it, will do MM and try to get the economy rolling. Will play and post tommorow.

How about stuge play now? That way we all had a part in the early development.

I guess we hold on to Alphbet until we can get something good for it. It's always confusing for me to know when to let alpha go.

With any luck the warmongers will harrass the Julius and Fred, and they will harrass them back

Sure. I rescinde my got it and leave it to stuge, assuming he can take it.
With alpha, I usually trade it immediatly for backfill, but that's usually because I prioritize it. at this point, we may be able to use it to pick up something useful, like maybe CoL(with freddy, you'l never know how generous he'll be). otherwise, we should use it to backfill what we need.

Great turn, Pigswill. All the resource tiles will be hooked up shortly.

After that, we need to get a worker back to Edirne to farm/mine some more, methinks.

We can backfill all the religious techs and archery with Alphabet, probably by trading mathematics. Augie and Freddie should meet all of our backfilling needs.

As far as settling, I'd look at the southwestern jungle site and get a bunch of workers down there to turn it into a GP farm. We could use some great scientists.

How about Alphabet -- Code of Laws -- Civil Service?

With regards to mice. :)

So, settling in the SW jungle? I'll get it started.

Also, do we want to pick up currency on the way to CoL? We're going to need it anyway. (Or do we have it already and I'm just off my rocker?)

See here tomorrow morning for a report.

Ankara is turning out to be a wonderful multi-purpose city. Once it grows to size seven, it can reach 20 hammers per turn. And that's great, because once the city had a garrison of four axes, I switched it over to wealth and the effect was marvelous. 90% science with 4 gpt surplus, boosting our research nicely. Right now the city should build a couple of spearmen, because Qin has HBR and ponies (though not hooked up).

Hmm, <cancel open borders agreement>. That's our jungle, thank you very much. And, as always with the AI, being thwarted leads to, erm, interesting decisions.

:rotfl:

After that, I opened borders with China again, so keep watching the south.

After alphabet came in, I researched hunting to enable spearmen. CoL is nine turns away, although at a defict. Augustus switched to HR, so we may want to research mediation and priesthood to be able to trade for monarchy. Trading for such low-cost techs is like dropping soap. It'd take five turns and would probably shave a turn off of CoL.

Also on diplomacy, I canceled the cows-for-pigs deal with Augustus and sold him the bacon for gems instead. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and I'd rather take the shinies.

We have a settler en route to the western city site in the jungle. Istanbul should now grow to size eight while working on a trireme and then hire two scientists and train another settler.

Achmed-wuz-here city is now building a hammam. I think a library next would be good, as the city has enough food to support a couple of specialists. We could go caste system, but I think that whipping libraries and markets is better.

I've came up with a general vision on our economy. We should use Ankara and the northern cities as support by building research/wealth and running specialists where feasible. Istanbul and the two yet-to-be-founded jungle cities should be cottaged up.

Also, we shouldn't DoW anyone before janissaries. That way they'll have the longest lifetime. We can then build a fleet of galleys while crushing Qin and then go and stake our claim overseas, preferably on Monty's hide.

SAVE

Sounds good. Nice to have currency to build gold, I guess we could also use alphabet to build research.
I guess the main thing is to have a major garrison in Ankara including two or three triremes, its fortunate that Ankara is also a canal city. All other cities shouldbe able to get away with a token garrison to give the citizens an illusion of security.
Its worth considering that all our overseas trade goes through China until we get to astronomy so we should keep open borders as much as possible. Maybe get the jungle settled asap. It might be worth revisting the dotmap to ensure we don't leave Qin a space where he could squeeze in a city.

Stuge, could you attach the save please? can't seem to access it :gripe:
Otherwise, the plan is to keep building up economically in Stuge's fashion and throw every unit we have into the garrison at Ankara. Head towards Jans ASAP via the northern path, courtesy of GS's, and maybe figure out the religious position of diplomacy.
Sounds good.

Loads fine for me.

Hackapell, have you downloaded btS 3.13?

Got it.

I think it's just becuase I'm working with a mac, and I haven't gotten around to figuring it out.

And no, I don't have BtS 3.13, seeing as I'm still waiting on BtS for the mac. So if you want to upgrade, be my guest.
