HC-03: The Ottomanation

Played three turns. Captured two chinese cities (lost a few units in the process). Qin has one city left; a crappy desert city south of America. He's willing to capitulate and give optics and theology for peace.

I'm not keen at all on accepting capitulation; one crappy city in exchange for -1 with rest of AIs is a poor deal. Peace however is a good idea, its going to take at least 10-15 turns to build some boats and get an army over to his last city anyway.

Oh FFS, how can I constantly miss being up? It's probably because the rest of you aren't in sync with my weekly routines, darn you. :p

I'd say make peace with Qin for the techs.

@ mice
:goodjob: on the war declaration and execution. What was your rationale for the DoW? large enough army, or something else.

My rationale was that you said we should attack ASAP. I didnt think I needed to go to the roster for it because we all said it's a good idea to hit Quinn as soon as we can. The army was heading for overkill with Jans.

I thought if resistance is harder than expected we could at least take two cities and deprive him of iron. It was better than allowing him to get to knights.

Also the game needed a shot in the arm.

I'm actually finding Warlords to be refreshing and enjoyable.

But where from here? I agree with peace for tech and no capitulation. We need to decide on vic condition, and liberalism's free tech.

Yes, I agree on peace, but we might as well let him stew there.
I reiterate my call for the destruction of Rome. he has towns, gems, wonders, and grasslands
My vote is that we win through domination or diplonation. Astro therefore is essentiel and should be pick up. Then, a beeline to cavs and rifles for the win!

If we're going for domination then it makes sense to take out the main threats first (Rome and America).
Astronomy is nice but not essential as we can get to the mainland by galley.
As we're researching chemistry already I think we should aim for steel because cannon and jans are all we need to win the game, maybe a few pikes as insurance.

Gone a bit quiet around here.

Took peace with Qin for theology and optics.

Roose and Jules have education and philosophy (happened in the last couple of turns). We're three turns from liberalism and three turns from chemistry. Our GNP and research is poor, we'd probably get liberalism if we went for it directly but might lose it if we picked up chemistry first.
Maybe we should go for lib and astronomy.

Really ? Last time I saw the save nobody had Edu. That surprises me. Still Astronomy will help. Canons on galleys for Augustus would also work if we can push our luck ..

Have you done you turns pigswill?

I've played my turns, lost count and stopped at 1430 (13 turns I think).

Jules got liberalism in the last turn of your set (1352  ) and I didn't notice either until I failed to get the free tech :crazyeye: .

Full report to follow tomorrow.

I thought we researched lib up to 1 turn :crazyeye:
Whatever. Auggie should give it to us on the cheap, and then we should finish chem, astro and steel, then think about victory conditions.

Ah well, this will prove that life goes on without the free tech from Lib.

We are still in a good position to attack with canons against longbow I would say.

A Report.

1358. T0. Trade sheep to Roose for furs.

1364. Roose builds Sistine.

1372. Ankara starts Heroic Epic.
Capture Guangzhou. Lose treb, cat. Keep city.

1376. Capture Nanjing, lose treb, 2 jans.
Qin down to one city, in the desert south of America.
Peace with Qin for theology and optics. Qin is pleased.

1382. Qin vassalises to Monte.

1388 zzz

1394. Liberalism (lost race in 1352 according to turnlog) >Chemistry.
Trade education to Fred for drama, music and banking.
Sell paper to Monte for 410g.
Sell philosophy to Tok for 380g.
Revolt to Free Religion (2 turns anarchy).

1400 anarchy.

1406. No anarchy.

1412 Fred wants lib for DR, declined.

1418. Chemistry>Steel (21 turns).
Trade crab to Roose for corn.
Cancel pig to Jules for gems (we have our own supply now).
Trade pig to Jules for spices.

1424. OB with Qin.

1430 zz. That's it for now.

I've been building harbours up north, whipped courthouses in southern cities. Shanghai still working on FP, should be whippable next set. I've been busy developing cottages and putting them to work coz our economy sucks.

We still have a GS in Istanbul, might be worth swopping research to printing press and letting him lightbulb most of it before swopping back to steel.

We have two galleys for our invasion fleet so if we're going to invade that needs addressing.

Techwise we're up with Fred and Roose but Jules is well ahead (got astronomy, economics, couple more).

I went for free religion mainly for the research boost, also for more happy, diplomatically it makes us neutral so no longer friendly with Jules (down to pleased).

We have the hindu shrine so we could think about spreading hinduism for more happy and more money.

No, Pharaoh. Just spending some time away from the computer.

I had Darwin bulb printing press. Thanks to that, pp and steel both finished in the fifteen turns. I put research to nationalism but we should discuss our next tech. Our finances improved otherwise, especially with the FP in Shanghai.

Most of our cities were on infrastructure this round, although Ankara built grenadiers after the HE and I built some galleys in midst of other builds. Here's the power curve:

Add some more grenadiers and cannons and we're set to stomp Auggie. Perhaps we should take astro next for reliable transports.

If we're able to take out Rome in one sweep, we could go for domination or conquest. Roosy is the only other big player and he can't match our production.

Hackapell's up.

Antium has the pyramids which would help for police state if we needed it.

Cumae has Great lighthouse.

I'm not sure about Roose not matching us in production. Thracian, Atlanta, looks pretty good.

We could concieveably go for Space after taking the Roman land and doing a hit on Roosevelt to cripple him. Monty and Tokugawa are annoyed at Roose so they could become space dumb allies ,we just have to go Buddhist, with Frederick not able to catch up to us surely.

You's up Hack.
