I always feel imbarrassed to ask things like this, even for an off-topic board this seems a little too off topic.

Anyways, can anyone tell me how to prepare a collared shirt? like polo shirts with collars. I see people wear them and it looks very nicely shaped and make them look sharper. I don't know if they iron the collar or something but it looks good. for me i fold them with the collar popped and fold it like a t-shirt. Any ironing tips, folding tips, or anything?

I always pop the collar

If you're a rich white guy from New Jersey you pop the collar.

your nick is GENERAL KILL, and you want tips on how to fold polo shirt?

lets forget for a moment that they make you like a prep school guy (thats not a good thing), they are uncomfortable like hell

whatever you do, dont wear your sweater over your shoulders...

ps. im just messing with you, dont be too insulted :)

There are special plastic inserts you can get for polo shirt collars. Unfortunately, you have to know the right people to find out where to buy these inserts. If you see someone with a nice collar, you can find out from him about the availability of inserts. Just walk up to him and say the secret password (while I know this password, I am sworn never to tell it to an outsider). He'll tell you where to go.

When you've got your collar inserts, come back and ask me about ownership in a bridge in Brooklyn and oceanfront land in Arizona. I have access to some bargains I can probably interest you in.

Iron the collar flat by unbuttoning at least the top three buttons, and always hang on a hangar or they will get odd markings and fold lines. Also iron the shoulders and neck, or the collar will look weird - use the pointy end of the ironing board to get it right. Use a lot of steam if you aren't good with an iron, it will take some practice. I am assuming this is for work, if not, then a more worn-in look may be more casual and appropriate.

How you prefer the collar may be related to your area. In the midwest, we tend to not crease the collar so much, letting it lay on it's own - a more relaxed look. For a traditional button down shirt or for the rich boys, they tend to iron in the crease.

As for folding - don't. Hang it. Always hang shirts.

I always pop my collar. No, you don't have to iron it or anything. Just fold it up. But it doesn't look good on everyone. I think you have to be tall for it to look good, otherwise, just leave it alone.

lol i'm not rich or prep. In my school, theres just a trend going around where everyone wears white collar shirts. It's just like the "white t" (huge white t-shirts) trend of the 90's only with collars. At first i liked the trend because i never liked the over sized white t trend which made u look stupid in certain situations but i saw some people wear the collar shirts and look like unemployed hobos.

Wear what you want, not whats trendy. Style is not a matter of the clothing you wear but rather the confidence with which you wear it.

Haha... well, at my high school, the 'preppy' kids are the only ones who pop their collar.
