Hell-Born, The Hittites.

You know it's a funny thing. There is actually a better way to have MM'd Hattusas to get a settler every 21 turns instead of 30.

Turn 1 (Size 1 3spt and 10 turns to growth)
Spear in 7
Turn 8 (Size 1 3spt and 3 turns to growth)
Worker in 3 with growth
Turn 11 (Size 1 3spt and 10 turns to growth)
Settler in 10
Turn 20 (Size 2 5spt and 2 turns to growth [1fpt])
Join Worker Settler in 1
Turn 21 (Size 2 5spt and 1 turn to growth [1fpt])
Delay Settler
Turn 22 (Size 1 3spt and 10 turns to growth)
Build Settler

Lord_Iggy: Why thanks man. I'll work those two screens into my update.

Tribute: Looking at the math, you're right, but right now that crosses the line of working and playing. I don't mind a little MMing, but that's a few steps above what I'd generally do!

Now then, things have cooled off a little bit. I have twelve more turns of war to make the Americans realize that surrendering a tech or two would be the best bet. Let's try and figure out why they won't surrender to me. To help decide, let's refer to the histographic data:

score1.JPG

Well, OK, maybe they're the most powerful nation in the world, and I've got a score on par with the dead and the gimped Civs.

power.JPG

But on the upside, I'm more or less the strongest nation in the world, if only by the skin of my teeth.

Now while I enjoy picking off their border cities and hopefully getting the AIs panties in a bunch, I'm sure there's a more cost efficient way to get the Americans to cough up gun powder! And what would hurt the American's more than losing a handful of corrupt, border towns?

Why, looting Denver, raping it's women, eating it's children, torturing it's men, and burning the entire thing to the ground, but of course!
Denver.JPG

Unfortunately, I see a brace of americans caravals heading towards the unfounded land on the tip of my peninsula-already an Aztec settlement has appeared. I ready some troops and upgrade a pair of three man chariots to form the first and second knight brigades. Right now I can upgrade one unit every four turns, but when my deal with france expires it'll boost to one every 1, with some extra money coming in. Not AWFUL....

But, back to the front. I've amassed a force of four AC and 10 or so three mans. Expecting a massacre, I assault the city. One AC is redlined but takes two from a fortified veteran pike in a city(75% bonus total), the next AC kills a regular pike, the next AC kills a regular pike, and my last AC, my one and only Elite goes to attack the pike at 2...and dies without doing any damage. :mad: I hate elites. Then a veteran three man chariot kills the pikeman. The city is destroyed, and three thousand men are taken prisoner for minimum casualties.

Then I see a town, chicago by the looks of it, which I can possibly take next round with the momentum I have from this army. I make the necessary moves, and I have 9 Three mans ready to go. Next turn, I begin the attack.

And I lose, rather horribly. My offensive army is crushed, and I'm stuck in an alliance with the dutch for the next seven turns. It was a mistake, but not a horrible one. I'll withdraw my forces and wait seven turns, then grab whatever I can from the Americans. The Americans are at war with several people, I believe I can grab techs if I sign with them during the peace treaty. Definitely gunpowder, possibly even navigation as well. We'll see how that goes next update, however, as right now I've got to go do something with my day!

Conan the Barbarian said it better!

"What is best about life?"

"Crush your enemies. See then driven before you; hear the lamentations of the women."

:D

Well, I generally don't do this either. But your way worked better since you could build a rax, troops and temple and other things that normally wouldn't get built, built way earlier than anyone else. My way just doesn't work the same way. But you can temporarily use the workers to road 2 tiles or mine 1 before joining.

Well, good luck!

That sucks with your loss, but the Hell-Born Hittites will never be permanently defeated!

Invisible Rhino: You know me well man.

Vlad Tepes: Indeed, I'd forgotten about that movie. Maybe that'll provide good viewing for the 5 minute long interturn...

Tribute: I suppose you're right. In the first few turns I think I built a few warriors and several scouts, which is why I was able to scrape up tech parity the first time.

Lord Iggy: Oh, but of course. Even though we've lost our ancestral three man chariots, we're....Oh, well, you'll see I guess.

Mrick: Thanks, and welcome to the thread.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As expected, the interturn sees the survivors of the failed chicago assault slaughtered where they lie wounded. Four or five redlined chariots were lost. The rest of my troops withdraw from my cities and began heading for the Incan border. I thoroughly intend to ally myself with the Americans against the inca in our peace treaty to help get my technologies.
Alright, one turn left before I can sign peace with the Americans.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:thumbdown: [pissed] :gripe:
Well...I'll just sign an alliance with the Americans against their other opponents. Oh...no wait. There are none. Except for the dutch. You know, the dutch? With all the knights, and iron, and horses, and hittite-killing potential.
Well, in the end I just sign peace for navigation and printing press for me giving out 70 gpt. I trade that around and grab gunpowder, and now I'm just down banking and chemistry. And none of my cities are above size 4!
Sorry that was a dull update, but that peace deal really through a wrench in my plans!
o boy who u gonna go to war now :crazyeye: :)
if the dutch DO attack u i hope that this happens :spear:
u being the spearman
Alright kiddies, after a little socializing, I'm now free to play civ again(Read: a certain girl is on a boat for the next ten days without me) so let's try and recap and figure out what I am going to do.
Actually, first, thanks to whomever rated the thread. I appreciate that.
Rhino: Yeah, I'm afraid it is. It's going to require all of my civ playing skills to scrape together enough power to pull myself through. I think, though, that I'm on the threshold right now. I should either be on my way to the top or left on the ash-heap of history pretty soon.
Ansar king: Hahaha, I laughed about that too.
Mythmonster: Thanks man, though I'm hoping it doesn't come down to that. If I get to cavalry, I'll be able to take on the dutch. Until then, they can stay.
Lord Iggy: Yeah, they do get the swiss mercs, but at this point most of the world already has gunpowder, so they aren't SO bad. Even though there'll be a ton of them...
Now then, let's review.
My current choice of enemys are the Inca. The inca have five-five and a half core cities left, all coastal, some with a tiny bit of desert. In their ~10 squares of desert, they have, yes that's right, saltpater. In my EMPIRE SIZED PATCH OF DESERT I HAVE NONE! :mad: Of all the resources I thought I'd have, saltpater was it. If it turns out that I don't have oil........Murder. Yes, that's right.
Anyways. Let's move on. Earlier I mentioned how the aztecs had stolen my furs. Well, with a little cultural pressure, voila, I liberate the furs space. The lesson? When you make a city way out in crap-ville to get a luxury, build your city ON THE LUXURY...Dumb Smuchks.
And my core cities, all producing knights at 2-5 shields a city.
core.JPG
My plan? To open a can of whooparse on the Inca to extort banking and to gain some salt pater before they have a chance to optimize the effects of it. My original plan called for me to attack the aztecs, but in some moment of infinite stupidity, I signed a ROP with them. Ah well.
But then, on the interturn, the RNG finally picks me up off the ground after having beaten my civilization to death for the past 4 and a half millenia.
sweet.JPG
Hallejuah! I have a pile of troops next to one of their cities already!
Immediately, Tlacoplane falls to the veritable hittite army parked out infront of it during the time of war.
wootpwn.JPG
And now the reason I wanted to attack the Aztecs? They're be coming at my land through other AIs territory, which makes them waste time and energy while I build up troops. It's like a fake war which will ultimately end up with me having banking.
And also, more good news. Saltpater just appeared in my roaded, desert, heartland! Woot for some poor blokes misfortune!
Again, I have to cut this short because I have some other commitments, damn social life. Well, I'll make a more coherent post this weekend, honestly.
While I'm lounging with this easy war with the Aztecs, I view my military and then my surrounding, possible enemies. First, let's look at me. Ever since the early days of my empire, I've led a medium gain, high-loss mobile army with the excuse that it got me out of wars quickly. Fine fine, that worked then. Right now I'm just starting to produce knights with the highly-mobile army still in mind.
Now then, my possible enemies, the dutch with their 1/4/1 UU, those darn mercenaries. The Incans, with musket men. And the Americans, the fourth most powerful nation in the world. Saltpater too.
Wait, they're the fourth most powerful nation? :eek: I hadn't noticed that until now. The superpowered west has surged ahead and created huge empires. With the Zulu and the celts gone, China has filled out into quite a nice dictatorship...Biggest land area, anyways. The Iroquois are second in landmass, but with the highest population. The Chinese are still dominant with the rider, and the iroqouis are probably riding out the supremacy of their MWs. And the bablyonians just had a killer start(The bastards...) so they expanded well. But don't worry folks, I've got a hidden card that no one expects.
The face on that card?
ace.JPG
The small landmass, high pop ottomans. What good are they? They have the sipahi, the combat Gods of the late Middle Ages. They're on my tech level, so once I have military tradition, they'll receive a nice gift package. And when they've had enough time to build some sipahis...Why, they'll hopefully return my generosity by giving the Western super powers hell whilst I build up my strength as a communist government.
But my friends, I do digress! The point of the matter is that I'd be pissing away shields rushing knights against musket men like I plan on doing. The most logical thing to do is break down my knight factories and start work on a MI+Trebuchet army to fill up my unit support of....280!? Woot! I like this goal. Of course I'll keep building a hanful of knights, but they will not comprise the bulk of my army in ~18 turns when I can go to town on the Incas.
Alright, and this next step you guys might not like so much. While I'm building up my army, I decide to declare war on the Inca. Not to take cities, but to trash their standing army and hopefully produce an MGL or two(The Aztecs are too far away.) It's risky, but that's what makes this game fun.
As predicted, the Inca send their forces in a scattered, poor fashion. Easy work for my knights and remaining 3MCs. Also, the Aztecs had plopped a city down on the tip of my peninsula years ago that I'd forgotten about...My empire is now a little larger.
Speaking on enlarging my empire....I was following some Incan longbowmen into their homeland when I see this!
Incaconquer.JPG
That's right, boys and girls, that's just a spearman. When they have gunpowder. Woooooooot! I change my original plan of not taking cities! The interturn, something amusing happens. I sent a single ancient cavalry to pillage their only luxury tile, fully expecting him to die. And, as expected, after his deed is done, a long bowman descends on. Courageous little guy, he served his purpos--oh, cool he beat the archer. Oh, there's another, poor fellow, I'm going to hate telling his fa--Holy crap he won again and he's only lost 2 bars! A third long bowman, and BAM! this guy floored another one. Now I've got my little flag out as he stands up to another longbow, but is forced to retreat. He's safe now, and if I have anything to say about it, that little dude is getting a gosh-darned bucket of medals!
And the best news? There was just one, single spearman in that city. I raze it, grab 3 workers and a trebuchet! Settlers en route. The next turn, I accept straight peace from the aztecs due to some knights they had in the area...Bah. I also notice that the Americans have begun to occupy Dutch territory. The dutch are broken, and the Americans are probably going to continue this fight to the death....Hrm.
Anyways, I raze the Incan saltpater city, defended by one spearman, with no casualties. Well, I'm assuredly going to get Banking from the Incans at least. Unfortunately, my computers ram is getting low from all this picture taking, and the computer won't accept the print screen command anymore. Treachorous machine, you forget your place!
Well, that's it for tonight. Tommorrow night, tune in for the ultimate destruction of the Inca followed by a possible American-Hittite alliance against the Dutch. Who knows, anything is possible in this game!
Edit: Picture mess up!
