Help a poor man make a gaming computer!

alternatively, you could shop for refurbished gaming computers.

hella cheaper than new ones and just as good, really. A little more expensive than building your own, though, in all likelihood.

Whatever you do, though, don't buy anything, ever, from TigerDirect. I did and some guy there sold the prsonal info or there was lax security and someone wiretapped the phone call :hmm: and grabbed $1000 from checking account...

@ civ_king

that power supply is WTFBBQSAUCE expensive.

it's a PSU+MoBo deal

I suppose so, but refurbished comps are supposed to come with 100% guarantee that it was restored to factory defaults. If not so, it's not refurbished, just used. The comp I'm using right now is refurbished, 1TB HDD, 6gb DDR2, Phenom II X4 810 quad-core, ATI Radeon HD 5450 vid card with 512mb... shipped with a mouse + keyboard as well, for $539 and no assembly hassle (with all the opportunities to cock-up) req'd. No issues yet except one on the very first startup that was easily resolved by calling the manufacturer's support line.

If you buy one of those refurbs, its no better than getting a new one. On the other hand, a used pc bought on craigslist will likely be a better value, but you get no warranty on it whatsoever.

umm, it's cheaper. A lot cheaper. that's the benefit of refurbs. they also come with warranties, just not as much as a new one might come with...

Given the lifetime of computer parts, I'd stay away from anything other than new unless it was dirt cheap (e.g. 10% original value or less) or had like a 1 year warranty.

Found that local on craigslist. for 800?

How well would that run?

So tempting with SC2 coming out,Civ V, and so much more.

sounds like a nice deal but I would try to get the previous owner to sign some sort of promisory note to refund x% of it within x time if it breaks. A sort of warranty. :dunno: I'm just suspicious of used computers sold c2c over the internet.

That looks like a pretty good deal actually. Id be wary that something is wrong with it.
