I'm playing as Alexander and the Greek's and doing well.

I've destroyed Brennus (it was a very fun war, I now control the entire eastern side of the continent), my religion is believed by 40% of the people, I've got two cities with Legendary culture with one that should get there in about 25 turns.

I've got Justinian as a (voluntary) vassal and I'm currently in a war with Hannibal. (I was good friends with him for a long time too...it's kinda sad)

The war with Hannibal is going good, he only has 4 cities left. (3 of which my units will be at and will destroy in a few turns. One is kinda tricky though, I'll have to pass through Gengkis Khans land to get to it, but Genghis is being stubborn and refuses to give me open borders)

Anyway though, I checked the victory screen and I see if I get only 1 and a half more % I'll win a Domination victory for population!

Help! How can I prevent from winning it? I want to win a Cultural victory!

Is there any way for me to disable the Domination victory? Anyway for me to increase the % I need to win? How can I let go of Justinian as a vassal? I'd was a total jerk, demanded all of his gold (He didn't have much), his world map and ALL of his resources and he was fine with it!

How can I prevent myself from winning a Domination victory?
Is there a patch or a cheat or something?!

Stop your cities from growing by taking the citizens from working the +:food: tiles (Starving one or two just to be sure might be a good idea as well).

Let those cities from hannibal alone - better make peace, so he can grow some pop as well...

And move up a level or two for your next game...

Declare war on a semi-powerful civ that is near some of your second-tier cities. Leave the border cities unguarded. Sit back, watch the enemy capture them, and your percentages should go down.

Worst case scenario, you can go into the world-builder and delete a couple of your own cities.

Or, hell, go into the domestic advisor screen and 'liberate' a few cities to your rivals. I'm not sure on the mechanics of that, but you sholud be able tto do it fairly easily.

From the wording of this, I think you might be missunderstanding the domination victory condition... To win domination, you need to pass BOTH the population and land percentage criteria. Assuming you land is still below the threshold, passing the population number will not trigger a victory.

I'm not sure if those would work. The only one that would work would be the starving one (how do you make citizens stop working food tiles) but I'm not sure if I want to starve my cities. Only 3 of them are really any big and they're all my 3 legendary cities...

How can I let go of Justinian as a vassal? His population counts towards mine, right? If I let go of him everything would be fine...

Oh....really? That's great! I still would need 20% more of the land to win then!

Are you sure? If so :D

Yea, he is right...

Sounded fishy, pop usually comes first in a domination win...

Erm.. Excuse me, but why are you warring like crazy if you want to win cultural? For cultural you need only 3 cities... Or to make it faster, 9 so you can get cathedrals in all of them.

And see if you have enough culture. It's actually a fact that you have to plan ahead your cultural victory better than, for example, domination or space race. However: see if this culture is actually "builded up" a bit. That means, if you built some wonders and cultural buildings in your "Big Three".

I once had a game with Louis XIV, when after I destroyed Maya, I proceded to spam wonders out of boredom (isolated), until I found that I can easily make it a Cultural Victory, somewhere in XV century.

If it's still some mid-game (XIII-XVII century), and you have some culture built up, then you can ride it to win if you keep spamming wonders in your cities, building Artists, and if really necessary, turning up your culture slider to 100%. Build Cathedrals in your Big Three, and build late game culture wonders - Eiffel Tower, Broadway, Rock&Roll and Hollywood.

However, if it's a late game, and your culture is still pretty minimal, then give Cultural up and stride to Domination, methinks. And try Cultural later, with less bloodthirsty style.

A screen from what date it is and how much culture you have would be helpful.

I was warring because I had a huge army and it was a good opportunity. I knew I was going to win Culture victory, so I decided to have some fun instead of just mashing "END TURN" over and over.

BTW, I ended up destroying Hannibal, and I declared war and began fighting Korea next....I had just researched computers and was going to start work on the Internet, and I was building the Three Gorges Dam...and then suddenly I won my Cultural Victory!

It took me by surprise! I hadn't been monitoring my culture and it got to 50000 in the third city without me realizing!

1953 AD, btw. :) :goodjob:
