So I'm going to decorate one portion of my room by having three portraits side by side. Criteria:

1) The person in the portrait must be awesome by my standards for awesomeness, though other than that anything goes (historical figures, fictional figures, whatever)

2) Painted portraits are preferable but photo picture portraits are possible if the person portraited is particularly pleasing.

3) The portrait must be purchasable on the internet from a reputable site for LESS THAN OR EQUAL TO $40 EACH. Provide a link!

4) The portrait must be reasonably big! 24x31'' is an example of reasonably big, though slightly smaller is possible.

5) Do not suggest The Kramer.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP ME!

Thanks! :rudolf:

fffffffffff

A cultured person would not have a PURPLE LOUIS ARMSTRONG poster. If you want to be pretentious get a Albert Ayler poster or something.

This is one of my favorite portraits, a self-portrait by Rembrandt (1657). I love it because he portrays himself honestly, as a tired, aging man, when he could have shown himself anyway he wanted to, with all the youthfulness, good looks, and bright flamboyant clothes he wanted, but chose instead to be honest and modest.

But Rembrandt was blind, and had wooden hands!

Also, couldn't go wrong with Shakespeare? In fact, even a conversation point, since wasn't it like last year that they discovered a potentially earlier/original portrait of the Bard that later copies were based off of?

Edit: here's the story, I'm not sure if someone has a poster of this or just typical Shakespeare posters, but anyway:

well this is silly. if you don't have the interest and incentive to pick them yourself why would we help you to be a pretentious git?

just put up some kandinsky prints like all the other people with no imagination...

It is not that Fifty doesn't have the interest in coming up with portraits himself, in fact on Fiftychat he was coming up with quite a few ideas.

But there are plenty of reasons that such activity would result in better selection:
Smart as Fifty is, other people can still have insights that wouldn't normally occur to him.
Having an item picked by someone else reminds you of that person, and that makes the experience a little richer. Things we receive as thoughtful gifts often are more treasured than things we make on our own.
