I'm trying to shawdom MadScientist in
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=399739

The only mod I have had until now is the BUG mod.

He said I would need the 40 civ mod to run the save. Further down his thread Hrun supplied a link to the 40 civ mod
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=234779&highlight=civ

I downloaded the mod as instructed(in mod folder which is in the BTS folder) and saved MadScientist's game save file in the normal place(C:\Documents and Settings\Chuck\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Saves\single). Tried running the game, loaded the 40 civ mod, loaded Mad's saved game file and got a runtime error. See attached image.

I assumed the problem is that I don't have the Earth Map he's using in his game. In his first post in his thread, MadScientist said he was using the Earth-Map, the 34 leader variant. I looked in the premade maps forum and found this one;
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246068

But when I went to download it the instructions said to save it into the mod folder, the same place as the 40 civ mod was saved to. So I followed the instructions and tried to load earth 34 leader variant and it just crashes.

So I tried loading the 40 civ mod, loaded up. Looked for an Earth map and couldn't find one.

It seems I need the Earth Map the MadScientist is using to use in the 40 civ mod, a premade map that saves to where maps need to go. Or is there some other problem...

Thanks,
Charles

Charles, Sorry I really do not know how I did this! I have the BUG and 40 leader mods. I then Downloaded NEAL's KIng of the World LIncoln game, saved it as a scenario under world builder, and started playing the 34 leader games as a custome Scenario.

How I got the earth-map is beyond me!

Joe

Figured out why the Earth-map 34 leader variant
http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246068
isn't working. Appartently it hasn't been updated for 3.19.

In that thread someone recommends the 40 civ mod that I downloaded. But it doesn't come with an Earth map.

Seems all I need is the Earth map, I'll look in some files and see if I can find it in the Earth map 34 and see if I can paste it into the 40 civ mod.

Think I'm on the right track?

But in the regular game and in the 40 civ mod I can't find the Earth map in the menu...

What am I doing that won't allow it to show in the menu?

A couple of additional questions;

Where do you save worldbuilder saves? And do you load them like a normally saved game?

Where do you save a pre-made map, if I can ever find an Earth map...

WB saves are called scenarios in the game menus. Single Player -> Play A Scenario. If it is saved with a mod (in the mod's public or private maps folder rather than in the Saves/WorldBuilder folder) you should load the mod first, then the scenario should be available in the Play a Scenario menu.

Thanks.

Ok, I can now load the saved worldbuilder files from the current Nobles Club game(sitting bull). That one works.

Also, playing a scenario has allowed me to play on the Earth Map! Woo hoo! The one from the Earth Map-34 leader variant.

But I still can't make 2 saves work. Neal's lincoln game will load but there is no interface. I can't even settle the settler. All I can do is move him around by right clicking.

And MadScientist's Askia RPC game crashes whenever I load the saved game.

In both of the above I go to advanced and load a mod. Load up the 40 civ mod. Then load a saved game. Select one of the 2 games above.

I run 3.19 and the BUG mod, latest version(V6 i think). Why can't I make it work?

Thanks!

One possibility:

If you have it set so the BUG mod is always active then it can interfere with mods that are not compatible - pretty much most that also modify the interface.

If you go into the mod's folder and find its .ini file you can set the mod to not load anything in the custom assets folder (like the always-on version of BUG) by editing that file and setting the "NoCustomAssets" value to 1. If it is already set to 1, then this isn't the problem...

Cool, this may be it because the BUG mod is always on.

When I get home tonight I'll look for that .ini file in the mod's root folder. Hopefully there is only one.

How do I edit the file? I've read about people using notepad, it that it? Do I just right click on the file?

Sorry my computer knowledge is so limited :mischief:

Thanks

ok, found a .ini.bak file.

no custom assets was = 0, so I changed it to = 1

no change with the lincoln save
the askia save went a step further to iniatializing, but still crashed before loading the map.

maybe I need to uninstall the BUG mod, but not sure how to do that.

here's the file's directory and its content;

editing a .bak file is useless, it's a backup file.

Your ini file is on the top right. It's just that your windows does not show certain file extensions, thus in this case it does not show the .ini of 40civs.ini .

No idea about the rest.

OK, that did the trick for Neal's Lincoln game!

But, MadScientist's Askia game still crashes when I load the saved game. argh

I load the 40 civs mod, single player, load game, and crash.

Any ideas?

OK, I think the problem is trying to run 40 civs because when I try to run a custom scenario with 40 civs it crashes. Neal's Lincoln game is only 34civs and it works, while I think MadScientist's Askia game is 40civs and it crashes. I am in the 40 civ mod

OK, I tried to worldbuilder saves in the 40 civ thread and both work. But both are random maps.

So now I'm guessing that the problem is with the Earth map that I have, from the earth-map 34 leader variant, and MadScientist's map in his save. Maybe the names are too long, but why does it work for other people and not mine?

Lincoln's save game Earth Map works fine, but the difficulty/espionage/etc... is all set. What I want to do is to be able to play an Earth Map with civs in historical starting positions and be able to set dificulty/espionage/tech trading/etc...

Any ideas?
