Help with corporations needed

Hello,

I've only recently got into Civ, and one thing has been bugging me. I can't seem to instigate a corporation. I've tried Mining inc. for instance a few times, got the Great Engineer and the resource, but I can't build the thing! I take the great engineer to the city with the resource, but the option to build the corporation is 'faded' out. Why why why oh why??? Am I missing something basic here? Something to do with civics perhaps?

Thats probably civic fault. State property to be exact. Corporations have no effect then this civic is present. You might wanna check your civic screen.

Or it can be because someone else had founded it first?

Then it's not faded out, just not available.
Ketman, just hover your mouse over it, leave it there, and a pop up should come, listing in red what your problem is.

That does sound like a civic problem. For mining inc., you had both the corporation tech and the railroad tech, correct?

The option is faded out, so it can't have been founded already.

If it's grayed out it means the corporation is still available.

If you're lacking the resources required, the red text that shows up when you hover your mouse on it will warn you. If there's no red text, then switch out of State Property because that's your problem, you can't found and run a Corporation with it.

Which makes little sense since the way corporations work in civilization are much more like state owned corporations than private corporations anyways.

That's the least of the things that are in Civ that don't make sense.
